OK,
Plat is fairly much spot on with the QAR part, as is CaribbeanThunder regarding the Firebrand / Flagship thing...
There is also an issue related to the pirates who steal ships from their Captains, which happened to me : JUST as I was about to Port my ship, a rogue pirate Crashed me (not 100% certain on the how), I think he used a Voodoo Doll to somehow causing me to freeze for a split second before crashing... My friends never stood a chance to save the ship, as the pirate used the "now infamous" DC code to crash them all, before doing a final filthy act to freeze my ship in it's location.
Now, of course I filled out a Bug Report, but I also made the effort to actually call Customer Support to further report the issue and the fact that a member of my Crew had been close by the wheel and managed to Screen the pirate in question performing his little "Doll trick". So we KNEW it was deliberate!
Anyway, Customer Support tried to free it while I was speaking with them, sadly at that time they were unable to. My poor War Galleon was stuck for some 3-4 weeks, during which time I was unable to even use any of my other ships, as the stuck War Galleon was still showing as being at sea and blocking my other ships... Like as if I had just launched it. Didn't matter what Server I went on, I simply couldn't launch either of my other ships, so had to settle for Boarding Public Ships or Joining Friends Plundering.
Anyway, they did a FULL Server Reset, which freed it (somewhat), I still couldn't sail it, I still couldn't repair it, but I was FINALLY able to Sell It! Which I did, but of course I had to Buy a New War Galleon to replace it.
So there's the third way that a ship can be "stuck"... and in my case, a friend from the Crew and I, when we logged back in and I was unable to Launch, Repair or even Sell my ship ; My friend Launched his Ship, I boarded and we Sailed to where we were about to Port when I was rudely DC, my Ship was nowhere to be seen, but the Bounty Hunter and Warship were still there, firing away at thin air.
Kriss.
