I'd rather use throwing knives. I've got a set called - I believe - Throwing Knives of the Sun Idol.
Why do I prefer throwing knives? If I'm going to do a stand-up fight, I'd rather use a sword. What I do do with the throwing knives: I approach to max throwing range, throw three, then start backing up and keep throwing. The target has to chase me and is often out of sword range, while I am constantly hitting him with the knives. I often take no damage at all this way.
