Hmm, I just came back after a fairly large break and I'm surprised nobody else has noticed or said anythign about this, the majority of the players ingame I have talked to have no idea about it.

Broadsides it also works nicely for considering they both have the same recharge.

Also, I did notice the same lots of little hit leveling techniques and although they do get more xp, as you said, it takes longer and the time invested does not pay as well.
