I figured I should "go low" to start, but your reasoning for putting so many skill points in the passives seems to make sense.

And there's the rub. It's just going to be hard not dumping all the points in Whither and Flaming Skull and killing things nearly instantly.
I'm already finding leveling to be so boring that after a few more levels I may just give up and finish the Black Pearl Quest and wait for Disney to add new challenges to the game.
