The prior post is a good answer. The less damage you generate per hit (one dot only) the more times you have to hit the enemy and the more rep you receive from it. As your Notoriety increases, you will automatically start losing rep due to the number of times they would need to hit you. The lowest damage/skill weapon you have at any given time seems to give you the most rep.

Right now, my PvPer is L15 with L16 Cuttlass and L13 Pistol only. Has not even gotten his doll yet. What it comes down to is how much work do you want to do to level any one given weapon. I am not even doing any part of the Pearl quest with my PvP pirate, because ANY additional rep gained from the quests will make it harder to level weapons. If you are eager to reach the ability to use any particular weapon, you could use the quests to reach that level, because it generates the easiest rep.

One day, I may have to get him above 18 rep in sailing, but for now... Only pistol and cuttlass.
