The old Port Royal, and the Old Tortuga... Those were the days..

However, I believe this change to the islands was nessecary. Many people recall fondly the old islands, but let's say that we didn't change the islands.

First, we wouldn't have invasions. The basic plan for the invasions now is to have 2 barricades to defend, and thus, 2 beaches. The old islands, I believe, were somewhat incapable of handling this form.

Second, the current islands are built in a semi-circular formation. For example, if you start at the docks of Tortuga and proceed to the Faithful Bride, but then take the opposite return journey, you would land in the same place. This makes navigation easier, and for those who enjoy GM events, more capable of holding racing events.

Lastly, the renovation to the islands took place slightly before the new cave formations. Would it have made sense to completely change the caves of PR, PDF, and 'tuga, and then leave the towns themselves alone? No. And in the end, in the alternate timeline where this change to the towns do not take place, we would face a simliar debate, where everybody, instead of hoping for a return to the golden days, would yearn for something new.

I can't forget my first trip to PR, with it's ol' bridge, nor the too-close-for-comfort allligators on Tortuga. But I can't imagine the Carribean Islands of POTCO any different than their current form.
