Sigh.

The game has dug itself in a trench right now. That is true. Founders used to be abundant, but now its rare that I see just one. Lots of people have quit the game because, as you said, it gets repetitive. However, ever since invasions were created, I noticed something. Since then, we have gotten AT LEAST one major update a month. Perhaps you may argue that they could be better. "OH! We need the Kraken! And ship customization! And yabadyblabla!" Mates, maybe they will never come, but do you think that just because those won't be added, that the game fails? No. There are an almost infinite number of updates that they can add. People say that there is nothing in this game. Let me tell you some things that they added in the last year or so.

Invasions. People still do these with their guilds. Perhaps they do get repetitive, but not if you are clever. You can do a one man challenge, with just one person per barricade. Heck, do the invasion ALONE. That will give you a challenge, and a goal to reach. The minigames. Sure, maybe they are kiddish, but there are ways to have fun and challenge yourself. Potion making. Sure, making it can be boring, but what is fun about making them is trying to find out some secret "formula" to making one ingredient in simply one combo. Try making three souls. Ok, I will admit that ship repair is kind of... pointless, so I won't bother there. Cannon Defense. If you go high enough, you can get some pretty nice cannon rams. Also, you can go try to beat your previous wave record. I know some people who have gone into the hundreds. Solo it! See how far you can go! Fishing, can you catch all the legendary fish? Try that!

Then we have the inventory expansion. This gives players something to do. Go out and loot. It will take some patience, but in the end it will pay off with a famed or even legendary weapon. The cursed blades that were added helped even more! Now we have EXTRA powerful weapons that are even MORE rare. If you want something to do, go spend a few hours looting and see what you turn up. Maybe you will have a few days where the loot bank is dry, but other times you may just get something nice. Now think about Raven's Cove. If you say that POTCO doesn't do anything for us, look at Raven's Cove. An ENTIRE new island. This island is nothing like the others. It has an elevator in it (not much, but hey! Its something new...) A whole new story quest was introduced, with a bunch of new, more interactive quests. Rage Ghosts are the first enemy that can KO anyone in one hit. They are extremely challenging, and are definitely something new. Then there is FOULBERTO SMASHO. Need something to do? Go fight him for a while and try to get a few good knives.

Then there is the one thing in Pirates Online that can never get old, no matter what you argue. Socialization. Even if you have soloed anything there is to be soloed, collected all the legendary weapons, have a full pouch of potions, and have soloed Cannon Defense to wave 100, socialization is always something new. This game is different from all others because the socialization that you do in this game, the friendships that you make, your guild, are all so unique. Saying that socializing in game gets old is like saying talking with your friends at school or work gets old. There is always something new, and who doesn't like just sitting back from a stressful day and chatting with those buddies of yours? I won't elaborate much more.

Perhaps POTCO dug itself into a hole, but it is climbing out. I can see it. I won't tell you to give it more time, because I know my reply will be "WE'VE GIVEN THEM THREE YEARS!" But I will just say that slowly they are rising from the hole, and then the game will shine.

Oh, and to your technical issues such as lag, I won't argue with that. They could up their engines a bit so that the game is better. But I think most people would be okay to suffer lag a little longer if they knew that there was some great new content coming, which is coming, I am certain.
