I find I actually sink
less in my War Galleon than in my War Frigate (when sailing solo, of course). Maybe it's because my style of sailing was learned by helming a regular Galleon -- but I find the frigate, because of its length, sometimes catches those cannonballs that otherwise would just miss my galleon's bow or stern.
(And if yer gonna get broadside to a Kingfisher, then ye deserve the fireballs.

To the original question: I think it really depends on your usual method of sailing. If you often have a crew, then I'd get the Frigate now. It'll make their life much easier. But if you sail solo most of the time, then save up for that War Galleon.
