Turns out that Sandra Tew, one of the finest potion makers in the Caribbean, recently found powerful new herbs on some uncharted islands. Sandra took these potent ingredients to her mentor, Tia Dalma and together they concocted several strong potions and elixirs. Sandra knew that these potions would help the Pirates defend against Jolly Roger's dark magic.
