Defeating Darkhart
General Darkhart resides in the abandoned town on the outskirts of Padres del Fuego. He is a required task in one or more quests and is difficult to defeat. It is usually best to go with a higher level friend and team up on him but he can be defeated solo. He is also one of the best enemies to level up your grenades on.
Now that the basic grenades are unlimited you can stay there for a while, although there is a gunsmith close by, you may only have to visit him to sell all the stuff you're going to get from Darkhart.
If you manage to get him all to yourself, here's how to beat him:
Don't stand too close to him. Stay back just far enough to throw, directly in front at the wall will suffice for now. After the first throw, he will come at you with his dagger. Don't run! Usually he will stand still throwing daggers. At this point, move slightly closer to him until he produces his cutlass - then he's all yours. For some reason he remains in the same place and will not charge at you. If however you get too close (close enough for him to taunt you) then you're in trouble (this is where it is a good idea to have a high level friend along). If he doesn't move, you can continue to lob grenades at him until he's done. Don't use long volley - he receives more damage for explosions at his feet than in his face.
Be careful of the minions running about. Take along a blunderbuss to take them out between rallies with Darkhart. If you explode a grenade while one of the minions are walking by then you have to deal with them too (this is also where a high level friend comes in handy).
As you acquire skill points, max out your throw and explosive skill to inflict the most damage - however, the higher you go the less reputation points you will receive.
Have fun.
