I disagree. Two identical ships will travel at the same speed in the same wind. Two *different* ships will travel at *different* speeds in the same wind. The top speed of a wind-propelled ship will be heavily dependent on the size/weight of the craft, number/size/placement/orientation of the sails, shape/hydrodynamics of the hull contacting the water, direction of travel relative to the wind, etc etc etc. Suffice it to say that the BP being faster or slower than any other ship than the BP is perfectly legitimate and based on nothing more than aero- & hydro- dynamics.
