Faint sound whenever I play pirates

Up until this morning I never had a problem with the POTCO's sounds but now whenever I play I hear a faint sound. It almost sounds like the ocean but when I turn off the music/sound effects I can still hear it!

It's annoying. What should I do?

Achilles 01-24-2009 03:17 PM

hmm.. most unusual,.. what are your sounds set to Mac?
I have music off and effects set about 1/3..?

sometimes i get a sound like this when i either minimize the game for a period of time (i dont play full screen) or when i have other programs running that have sound, ESPECIALLY if the other sound is coming from a web browser or other internet related sound. it also happens when i use my linked accounts to play both pirates on the same computer, but i suppose that falls in with the "internet related sounds." hope this helps =]

This sound is on whenever I play whether the music/sound effects volume is off or on.

I don't have pirates on full screen right now. I also minimized it for a while. Maybe that's why.
Thanks for the comments.

EDIT: Nope, it's still there. It's faint but anytime I turn up the volume for pirates I can hear it. It's really getting on my nerves and I can barely play pirates this way.
I think it mgiht be on my end but I don't know why.

P.S. Anytime I turn off pirates the sound goes away. It also takes a while to log on now.
Could I have a virus?(I'm not good at computers.)

The sound gets loud then quiet but it stays faint.

I've found the when turning on & off (several times) the "Sound Effects" in audio, especially with auto-run on, the sound effects continue. With additional tracks of "feet pounding the sand" added to each other, they accumulate into a very annoying (and loud) hiss.

Likewise, if someone is charging their voodoo staff when a flagship battle ends, their sound effect will stay with me until I hear someone else near me, cast the same voodoo staff spell.

Try leaving the sound effects turned on all the time, logging out whenever you can't get rid of a particular sound. Or turn the volume down on sound effects, to about 10%.

when all else, fails, it may honestly just help to completely shut down your computer for a while. sometimes i have to quit all my processes/programs or even shut down to get the noise to go away.

MacIronhawk 01-24-2009 06:08 PM

I shut down my computer everytime I get off of it.

Also, this wasn't a sound from pirates. It sounded like some water dripping nosie. I can't explain it but it's annoying.
I unistalled pirates and I installed it again. I hope that works.

In tormenta cave, in front of that first seabeard, there is a waterfall from the roof, which causes the water dripping sound for me. Again, when I toggle "Sound Effects," (the check box, not sliding the volume) the glitch occurs, making each successive pass under that water add to the total sound playing, not going away. By leaving sound effects checked ON all the time, I can at least tell when it is starting to get wonky, then re-log when it does.

It's almost like that but it's a very deep(but faint) sound. It's also very fast.

Not too long ago I was hearing a sound that sounded like the lingering staff sound that Edward described but it turned out to be a fan (probably the graphics card fan) going full blast. Maybe thats what your experiencing.

Chris 01-28-2009 02:10 AM

Yep, that's it.
It went away but sometimes it comes out of nowhere.

The first audio issue I've seen in the game.

Lol ive had the occasional broken staff bug where all you hear is the charging of the staff but that was cause when someone used a staff and i like teleported away this one i have no clue whats ccausing it!

I've only heard this sound-glitch when I've had "Sound Effects" checked off. Toggling the sound effects on/off seems to throw it in a tizzy. Just leaving it on all the time, using the slider to mute (or the OS to mute, etc.) seems to prevent this from happening.
