Rudeness in SVSing
Ok, I had something happen last night while SVSing. I guess I better tell the whole story so everyone can understand the circumstances. While SVSing with my guildmaster we got hit pretty bad, the lag on there is horrible but nonetheless we headed out to sea for repairs. And of course one of the two ships that hit us followed us, one gave up and turned back and the other continued what seemed like forever but he too gave up.
We finished repairs and headed back into battle. We were battling a ship when another came up behind us and sank us. Really no big deal, was fair and square. So we pop back up in our bubble then all of a sudden in privateer chat this pirate came on mocking us by saying we were pansies, bragging on how he took us down with no crew, that we were chickens by heading out to sea, that we were losers, how he didnt need the gold for he was topped out, etc., etc. I think you get the gist of the idea of what took place. My GM was getting mad and I tried to calm him. Told him we shouldnt lower our standards to his level by making remarks back. I finally left cause this guy was really, really belligerant. And no, I couldnt report him because he was hiding and had switched sides so we couldnt find him then he suddenly logged. Anways, I went on Disney to look this guy up and guess what? He is a level 40 pirate and he is an officer in his guild (a good size guild too). I take guilds very seriously and as being an officer myself we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. We are all out there to fight the fight but as an officer we are there to help others as well. And for a mastered pirate to come along and to have this kind of behavior is just wrong. If my guildmaster caught me or anyone else in our guild behaving in this manner we would probably be booted out. And if anyone is thinking this was a kid? I asked and he said he wasnt and I did tell him then quit acting like one. And one more thing, lol, I did lose my temper and said he was an idiot before I tp'd off the ship for land because by that point I had enough. Now my question is this......am I wrong in expecting a mastered pirate and an officer at that to hold themselves to a higher standard and not stoop to this type of behavior? Kani of Spartan Ellite |
No you are not wrong. First of all, no one should act like that no matter if they are officer or not.
Idk HOW he even became an officer if he is like that. People like that get on me nerves. That's why i dont go to Abassa anymore cause they are all like that. I think that we should be able to click on the person's NAME on the chat screen to be able to report them so this kind of thing would stop. What you said isnt wrong, it be 100% right |
What Chris said. You aren't wrong in expecting that, and you aren't wrong in calling the guy an idiot. I'm surprised you had stayed that quiet for that long without snapping at him lol. There's a bunch of mastered pirates running around like this, trust me I've run into a bunch, and know a few. Seems like Disney doesn't do all too much with the report button either, can't tell you how many I've used it on, they still show up the next day mouthing off.
I really wish there were more polite players on the game, its annoying and tiring to have to put up with this. |
Its a shame how many people have to do this in a game lol. I myself don't SvS a lot but when I do SvS though I hear a lot of people who like to brag. I admit that I say stuff when I sink friends....but nothing serious like that just a little joke like "glub glub glub". Same thing happens when you PvP someone....they try and talk like they are all that and try and insult the other person.

Ben, Kate, Char, YOU.......anyone I miss?
back on topic.....people just need to learn to enjoy the game instead of trying to ruin everyone elses fun. |
Don't think those that do that are really realizing how they are coming across to others, like you said, that's what makes it worse. Had a friend a while back that thought it was all for fun. Sad to see what some player's version of fun is.

No people (of any level/rank/guild, etc) shouldnt be like that, the fact of the matter however is there are people out there.
Some people find pleasure in bragging, boasting, and belittling others. Such individuals are subject to thier own immature minds at work (regardless of age). I created a gaming group years ago (OFx) specifically to avoid such gamers, unfortunately in a MMORG I have no control over the other players around me (like I did on my other game servers I ran). |
I don't think that someone meets any standard just because they're mastered and/or an officer in a good-sized guild. Using people as my school as the type, excluding me of course, I'd say most of the people at my school who play online and play well are big somethings for the most part.

Your views are nice, and in a way I think many would like to see, but that boat is taking on water.
There are many that would use anything to try to take advantage of others, and it has been demonstrated many times. Many ships used the healing glitch, triple fire, and other resources of cheats, like undead glitch. Many of these full crews had all types of players, officers, and I am sure gm's. Pvp I saw many different types of cheats as well. If its honor, manors, shilvary type things you are looking for you just are not going to find that by some players. Level, mastered, officer GM or undead monkey, you are going to find this behavior by some. I saw a good demonstration of some of these behaviors just this weekend with the curse. So to answer the question to this post, yes you are wrong to expect that, though most of us would like that to not be the case. If you expect this by all others you are going to be quite disappointed. |
LOL, I will admit I had a hard time keeping my temper under control and I even surprised myself in doing so. But as he continue to mock us I realized that was exactly what he wanted us to do.....to lose control. I wasnt giving him the satisfaction of that. Instead I chose to find out who he was, what guild he belonged to, who his GM was, the names of all his ships and where he put his skill points on his weapons. What he doesnt know is he went up against the wrong pirate! And a female at that! LOL! And if any of you guys know anything....there is nothing worse than a woman being ticked off and bent on revenge! So it aint over till the fat lady sings! LOL! Kani of Spartan Ellite

Yikes!!!!!!
I applaud you for keeping your cool for as long as you did.
It's very sad indeed that someone would stoop to hurling insults and gloating in a game; nevertheless, it's apparent that some players have absolutely NO real life, or maybe a serious mental inhibition. You seem to have encountered such an individual. I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you. To answer one of your points..... Yes, I do think officers (especially fully mastered level 40's) should be held to far higher standards than members. As an officer, it's my duty and privilege to make sure people (guildmates or not) can enjoy the game as much as possible. As a result, I get really really gassed when I find someone cheating during a curse (you know who you are. oh, and don't let me catch you either - I will NOT hesitate to report you for it) or being immature in Ship vs. Ship. Why? Because it's ruining the game experience for others; plain and simple. Long and short = I fully mastered my skills to help others enjoy the game and have fun, not to pummel and humiliate them. Another thing, I would not hesitate to kick someone like the punk you described from a guild - in absentia! Honestly, I wish there were more decent players like you. And there are :) Hey! If anything, you can expect nothing less than utmost chivalry from me (you can likely find me on Andaba somewhere). Look for Radulf Stormfury :D |
You know Poison Elf I have played this game for about 10 months now and this is the first time I have run into this type of behavior. Yes I have run into rude people before but nothing of this caliber. And I dont hold other peeps to a high standard but I do expect for other peeps to show a little respect for others. Not a lot but a little. I have been involved in a lot of drama on this game even to the point of some that tried to take me out of this game but I survived. So no I dont expect chivalry and honor! If I or others expected that then we wouldnt be playing pirates. And the only disappointment I have had playing this game is with Disney by not raising our notoriety and weapon levels. *************************************** Hey thanks Radulf! Nice to meet other peeps like you and others on here that like to keep the game honest and fun! And as I said previously I had a hard time keeping my cool but I am an officer and was just trying to keep my GM from losing his, lol! I know him well enough that he is very competitive and doesnt take kindly to peeps like this. In my first guild where I was also an officer the rule in there was to help anyone and everyone no matter if they were in our guild or not. Since making three other pirates I have encountered quite a few peeps that have stopped to help me so I know chilvary and manners have not died. I will keep an eye for you on Andaba. We SVS a lot! LOL! |
I agree with the points, and respect by others, but it will remain a fact that some players are not that way.
On the most part over all, I would say most behave what I would consider appropriate. Being from many different games and play styles, there is little I see new in peoples behaviors. Many times why I get laughing so hard I can't even respond back to cases like this. This here is a ancient pk, pvp type tactic. This person was not looking to be friends, or join the guild. So what was it he was looking for? A reaction, argument, make you mad, get under your skin, a fight. Was he successful? I would say yes he was, even if it wasn't with a immediate response. I would think this is nothing new, its where one individual draws the line versus another. A example of this is something like Darkhart, fighting him getting 500 rep. Another player jumps in fighting it you get 70 rep. Its OK if he doesn't say anything? Not OK when he says, haha I just lost you 100's of rep? This is likely a every day occurrence to most pirates, but not getting it rubbed in. This being a hot topic in the past has had many different arguments. If we were to see some pvp servers or something, I would think we would see this behavior common place. Why would it be any different then most other games? So I stick with the same answer, you can perhaps expect good behavior by most, but definitely not all you run across. The level, officer, Gm, etc. will be no better one way or other for some of these people. When it comes to pk, pvp, svs, type game playing this behavior is likely to be seen, right or wrong. So I would expect this to come along from time to time in one form or other, whatever degree you wish to rate it at. That doesn't mean I think its a good thing. |
Maybe he just had a big ego and wasn't looking for anything on anyone else's part.
