where to level cannoneering

Where is a good spot to level a level 5 connon.I am not much of a crew member on ships more of a captain of the ship.

If you're a solo cannoneer, you may find it tough reaching level 12, from which point you have a good, accurate, long-distance shot. I'd just go Public until then, or let a friend take control of a ship and not fire a broadside while you shoot with the cannon (said friend would still get rep actually). This'd work best with a Frigate, as you could just man a front cannon and fire as your sailor friend just maintains his/her position: in line with the other ship.

This as other skills can also be worked together. Park your boat near a enemy ship just on radar. Use your cannon to hit the sails, soon as you hit the ship first time it will head at you. When its lined up like that you can shoot the sail mast, knocking sails down.

After you have shot off all the sails you can go to the wheel and start using broadsides until sinks. Getting rep in both sailing and cannon.

Takes some practice to shoot sails down, and you may have to jump to the wheel and pull back at first.

Best way is to find someone to help. Get out on a frigate, light frigate or war frigate which ever go to enemy ships. While your friend sails you are on the very forward cannons. You attack near-by ships as they head toward you your friend puts the ship in reverse. Best ships to do this are the phantoms to the left of padres.

If you can handle phantoms, or any skellie ships those will give better rep. Being able to shoot sails down on any ships fast enough to bring it to a stop is what it boils down to.

Eventually you can shoot top sails off and work down so you get more shots in sails. Then all damage to the ship itself with broadsides. Shooting further out has weaker damage, thus more hits and more rep.

As you move up you can do this through the differant stages of skellie ships, getting 100 rep in cannon and sailing both.

BTW I would stay with the galleon, even when you can get a war galleon. Its broadsides have been hitting better than a war galleon that mostly misses straight on.

I have never had this problem with my War Galleon. Seldom miss a shot/cannonball. It is not uncommon for me and my war galleon to just clear a path through fleets of navy ships.. sinking many with a single broadside. (the smaller stuff of course.. which is also harder to hit)

Aye love me war galleon.

For cannons I find myself heading out past PDF and attracting phantoms and cannoning them down on their way in. Something I can do pretty much on my own with having another friend/sailor at the helm. Remember.. they 'almost' always turn left.. ;)

I'd recommend the Skellie flags, the Spanish and French. They have one sail.

Last time I checked both live and test server, shooting head on a skellie ship with its sails down, galleon did much better. Even less broadsides and more rep. This is to gain rep, not how fast to sink it, so also at furthest out distance you can reach with broadsides.

With this same ship I could also sink eitc war frigates from the side and open fire in one hit many times.

Ahh ok, regarding rep.. ok, miss with a couple of your cannon balls, allows the ship to survive for another broadside allowing you to hit it with yet more cannonballs (and getting more rep). Just stating how it works for me.
