give fellow pirates some money, how?

i have a friend (in the real world) who needs help on the game, all he wants is 6000 gold, how can i give it to him.....?

Elizabeth Love Heart 11-14-2008 12:04 PM

Thats easy. GO to Padres and play poker. There are three NPC players and a dealer Go to a quiet server so no people are there too. Both of you sit down to play. Then bet until the NPC folds. The first round they will almost always fold, the second time I find the fold almost all the time the third time they rarely fold so stand up if you need to do more than two rounds. But 6000 is doable in one round if he has that much to bet too. Just keep rasing the steaks until the pot is 12000 (6000 from you and 6000 from him) then you fold

Just an couple of add ons here:

1) make sure you and him are RAISING the bet, not 'calling' the bet - the computer will never fold (or rarely) if just calling (if after two passes on round one - call and do round two, if after two passes of raising on round two - then stand up and sit back down to cut your losses - unless one of you can win the hand for sure :) )

2) if the computer does stick around for one turn of betting - you a) get a bit of free gold cauzse they contribute to your pot and b) the 'back and forth' raising usually goes from 20 gold to 40 or even 60 gold (because the one or two NPC players would of raised by this much and you had to match it) making the transfer faster :D

occasionally the npc's wont fold so if they haven't folded by the time the pot is at 1-1.5k it would be a good idea to cut your losses and start again

combatlizzy 11-14-2008 03:43 PM

If me pirates could play poker together ( can't do the runnin game twice thingey) then Lizzy wouldn't be maxed all the time and her younger pirates would have shiney for larger ships and new clothes!

Here's the way I've found works well:

The first hand is usually the easiest. Raise at yer first opportunity (when ye get yer first two cards dealt). Most ot the NPCs will fold. Maybe one will stay.

Call on the Flop (the first three cards put face-up on the table).

Call on the Turn (the next card put on the table).

Raise on the River (the fifth or last card put on the table). Usually, the NPC will fold at this time. Now keep raising each other until you have DOUBLE what you are trying to give away.

Key points: if the NPCs at any time raise you, fold. If there's more than one NPC to contend with after the Flop, fold.

Hope this helps.

I have found that only the first 2 rounds generally work, as Max mentioned.

I find that if I raise, the NPC's usually fold, if one stays after a 2-3 rounds, I call then start raising again, and continue this process. You wont believe how often that final NPC will RAISE on the last round, and the FOLD the very next round of bets (they do try to bluff).

Unless the NPC actually has a real good hand, they seem to fold everytime before a winning hand is selected.

Yep, only way to transfer gold in the game. I was transferring some to James Buffitt Jr. from James Buffitt the other day. A guy sat down about half way through the transfer and finally said "Are you guys having a hissing contest? Come on and call already!" I told him to chill out I was giving my little pirate some money. He just said "Oh."

I also got told by someone on my friend's list (TP'd to me without asking while I was transferring gold) that I was "cheating". LOL

Yea... If I see someone sit when I'm doing it I just stop and let them have the table...

It's a 'thin' line, because though I don't think its cheating, I do think we are 'bending the rules' a lot on this one ;) (but they deserve it for taking my Hex away LOL :D )

I don't really want a full trading system in place either though (just picture the 'gold miners' in WoW and some other games coming out of the wood-work)... just an easy gold transfer system (hey - even if its was only set to 10k every hour... I'm fine with that... what's a few days for me to transfer 60k to one of my pirates to buy a ship :) )

Hmm... but cheat cards are allowed, non?

I love talking in crew chat with another, and having the know-how as to 2 more cards that if needed I can switch to. Works great: I love poker, and am trying to create a card game of my own.

Sarah 11-14-2008 09:55 PM

I guess talking cheat cards is ok if the NPC's don't fold and you decide to stick it out, but if done properly, it should be just the two of you raising each other with the giver folding to the givee when the pot reaches the amount you want. No reason to waste a chet card IMO.

League 11-14-2008 10:03 PM

2 people can raise the pot indefinately: should the whole group remain in, you have 3 npc's just contributing money.

Over the last few weeks, I have given away over 80K in gold to others this way. We use this as a way to help our junior pirates buy their first War Ship. One thing I will say as to doing this, Watch the NPC's, they give "signs" when they have a really good hand, mostly they "Smile" when the flop cards go their way. IF you are trying to drive them into folding, and they won't fold by the last card being shown, cut and run, get up from the table and reset.

See... that concerns me a bit. Don't get me wrong - I got no issue with doing the action of handing money over to others... so this is nothing to do with Basil (and many others I know who are cool peeps who hand their money over to others in need)...

My view here is that I've found pirates lately have been looking for the 'easy out'... invincible ship glitching for example - now I see a lot of pirates lately who can't shoot to save themselves from a light sloop... gold giving - sure to a second or third generation pirate thats ok but I had to do it my own the first time and I learned a lot from getting that 60k (ship and enemy movements, attack patterns, pirate needy skills!).

I don't mind helping out a fellow player - but I'm not a free War Frigate Bank either. If ya don't earn them - ya don't appricate them... just another big boat on the ocean. When I got my first one many moons ago, I remember the third time I launched it and a bunch of guys in local chat in another boat beside me started talking: 'WOAH what is that?' - 'Thats a War Ship!'... that day I was happy I had worked SO hard to get that boat... now - I have all kinds of players begging me for money to buy a boat... why? You'll have more money than dirt soon enough - just save up a bit, buy the boat, and feel pround about it...

Maybe when they come out with custom ships or the next ship type I'll forget this babble of 'earning the right of ship passage'... and I'll still be handing out dough to those on quests and things who need a helping hand - but I don't think I'll ever be a 'ship bank' :D

*on topic*

Ok, I feel better now - just had to get that off my chest LOL :D

Basil adds another good tip - watch for the Tell Signs... they too indicate if you should do another round or bail and try again :)
