I was with a small crew (3 of us) the other day when we successfully grappled a navy ship. We got the little green circles--the grappling was easy. Then we were able to walk across the ropes to the navy ship, but that's where we got stuck. I was stuck at the side of the navy ship--on the edge--for quite some time. I was unable to board either the navy or my captain's ship. I tried jumping, Ctrl, etc...nothing helped. Eventually I somehow floated through the heavens back to our ship, but my crewmates had left, I think. I couldn't steer the ship, so I just logged out.

Are you trying to capture luther? If you are then you don't have to board a ship you just have to sink a navy vangaurd ship.

I was on a ship of 4 trying to board a Navy ship. I was invited into a crew and we did indeed 'hook up' with a Navy Bulwark. A couple got on the decks and were fighting the guards. I managed to get there to eventually (a lot of jumping, moving sideways, etc) and fought the guards. But then I couldn't get off the Navy ship or go back down the ropes.

I stayed on board and it finally sunk...and killed me. I guess the program transferred ownership to me because I got the "You are Sunk!" message.

Many times I have been able to hook up onto a ship but can't climb the ropes. Nor can I get rid if the ropes. So imagine my ship 1/2 way between Tortuga and Port Royal...with a Navy ship sitting at Port Royal's entrance...with ropes stretching all the way between us! LOL Now that is what I call quality rope makers...they should get a patent! -)

Gotta love beta testing!

On cannons, right click and look for the grappling hook. ONce it's released, it may or may not grapple to the enemy ship. If it does' you go to the other ship. You basically take out the crew of the enemy ship (I think...) COrrect me if I'm wrong on the last part.

well, it never works with me any ideas on how to make it work?

Shoot the ship until it is weak enoguh and then 4 little green circles appear, once you have these switch to grapples and fire over 4, 1 for each circle and you will become bound to the other ship. Off the cannon, move to the edge of the gunwhale (edge of your ship, rail or what ever) and hit 'control' once you get teh prompt. it has recently begun to work.... HOWEVER !

Once aboard i usually end up sunk as either the ship I am on is sunk by others or my original ship goes down at the target ship contiues to fire...

I'll work it out yet :)

Do you have to blow the sails off the ship to be able to grapple it?

I've found that the green circles come up once the sails have been shot down so that the ship can't sail away and the hull is damaged. Switch from the cannon shot to the grappling hooks (right click or use the scroll wheel on your mouse), and aim for the green circles. If your shot is successful, you'll see a rope slung between your ship and the enemy ship. The program will pull the ships closer. Exit your stance at the cannon and go to the railing like you want to exit the ship. When the ship is close enough, the program will indicate "Press Control to board enemy ship".

Once you're on board, a variety of things could happen. Fight the soldiers. Take over the helm (although once a soldier got back to the helm after I left it, and I was stranded on this enemy ship, unable to exit the ship or take back over the helm with soldiers that kept respawning ). Or get hit with a bug. We were most successful when we killed off all the enemy crew. We were immediately transferred back to our ship (reverse rope move) and the enemy ship sunk.

I was able to grapple and board the ship. I battled all the guards and had to use the elixer to stay alive. When all the guards were defeated I was automatically put back on my ship and turned around to see it sink. Other times that I have done the same thing my healthy ship was sunk while I was onboard and then thrown in the ocean only to have a guard still attack me but I couldn't see him. The health bar for the guard was gaining its health back too. Strange. The game exited abnormally but I got some screenies to send to the Development Team.

Thanks for the info..

I think you can only board certain ship, and it seems to be the navy galleon and frigates. Try the ones that have the pirate flag above them, it works only some times. Then when your on board you get the "you've been sunk" message.....

You can take over ships? I had no idea! Every time I kill the Navy guards on the ship, the ship always sinks. O_o

Arrr!
