Yes, to get a tester account, you continue to play normally, and hope they invite you.

They email invitations accordingly.

Thats the only way. ;)

I think they send invites based on the time you joined: I was inactive for a good while, and I got my invite in the term of my inactivity. And, on a different note, halo.
