Yes ladies and gentlemen Port Royal was a real place it was a town off the coast of jamica i believe Captain Morgan (the pirate no the rum) Made port there and was paid by the british to destory Spanish Ships and Missions on the mainland of Mexico.

all those squares off shore.. are pinpointing varous archeaological digs/points of interest of the original Port Royal, before a major earthquake put most of it under the sea.

well ladies and gents most of the stuff in the films are based on real places, events, and people.
on the last film you can see some of the most notorious pirates' flags in the last battle.

your story lacked a minor detail : he was not paid, at all, for ANY reason, he just came with a bunch of buccaneers and raided this highly guarded town. when he was captured, AFTER the raid, he was about to be hanged, but INSTEAD he was cheered on, and made GOVORNOR. wow, right?
