Cross-Chat (Safe Chat)
 

This chat I understand is for children under the age of 14. But why do they make us use it? If you want to talk to someone with cross-chat, you have to turn yours on if you are above 14. It really stinks, you can barely say anything, cant even type numbers, which again, I understand. But why do they make us use it??? If we have open chat, I think we should be able to talk to people with safe Chat without having to turn ours on, what do you guys think?

I actually like the feature, tho it is a pain at times. It lets me know why a particular pirates is acting as a child........because s/he is a child. I change my demeanor towards that priate immediately when I turn on safe chat so they can hear me. On regular chat if someone is being a "n00b", I chalk it up to a poor personality. If it is on safe chat, I take the time to see if they just don't understand something.

Aye I think POTCO is making a feature called Open chat meaning that ANYONE can hear what plus chatters are saying.

Yes, it has its purposes. It can be aggravating knowing when to use it though.

I also do not believe it is FORCED upon an account that is linked to appropriate master parent account, in which case it is controlled by the master parent account. It may require both accounts be created by the parent, and then the parent can control the level of access of the one to be used by the child.

Otherwise, I do believe it is forced on pirate accounts 13 yrs and under.

I also think that to get open chat you have to go on DXD and do it. I think that rackat is correct about D coming up with Open Chat for everyone

I disagree. If some chatters have regular chat, they must be a young age. Now for the + chatters, they might swear. I don't think parents want their 8 year old listening to naughty words.

I haven't gotten an arr since beta when they put me on limited access for a while.

That arr is for people who don't have open chat or children under the age of 14.(I'm sure it's really 13)

I think it serves a purpose. It helps the game stay safe.

Yea, it helps keep it safe for babies. But what about older people??

The chat is harrowing, in that you rarely know, when someone can't hear you. The safe-chat people's messages and/or names should be in a different color somewhere. Right now, there is no indication AT ALL, that the intended recipient did not hear your message.

They don't even get "arrr." <-------That's the problem.

If I type something and press enter, everyone in that zone should hear something. Filter it down to "Please arrr at arrr arrrr arrr" (from "Please landd at Ile d'Etable Porc") if you must. But say something. Give them some clue that someone is trying to communicate with them. Maybe even give me a warning, like "Message filtered for 5 recipients" as a hints-like popup thing.

I agree with Edward. The most annoying thing about it is that you have no idea whether or not someone with safe-chat saw what you typed. I think there should some sort of indicator telling you the person with safe-chat did not recieve your message. I understand it is used to protect younger players from inappropriate chat, but i need to know whether or not they see the chat i sent them. If you did not know they had safe-chat, you might think they are ignoring you. I know some people who have deleted friends who they thought were ignoring them and it was just safe-chat.:)

I had safe chat before. I just went on Manage Account setting on the main site for pirates and changed it..

Are a lot of POF members basic access members on POTCO then?
Because if you're an adult you can change the controls so there will never be an arr.
If you're a basic access member you can't change the controls so it's always going to do that arr.
I can say numbers easily. I never get an arr when I chat. I did when I was in beta but not anymore.
