There are 2 ways to accrue sailing points.
1. You can use your broadsides and ech time you hit a ship that you then sink you get points, and/or
2. You can be at the helm of a ship (not necessarily your own) that has a crew and as they sink ships you get sailing points.

Broadsides?

I have never neeb able to use broadsides. I've made it to level 13 on cannons simplly fighting ships alone. Do you need a crew to enable you to use broadsides?

No you do not need a crew to use broadsides. When you are at the helm of your ship hold down your RIGHT mouse button and you will see the broadesides icons appear on your screen. Then move your mouse pointer over one of them and push/release the LEFT mouse button to fire a broadsides at a ship. Not an easy task but it is doable with practice.
It takes a while for the skill to recharge...like the sweep skill on your cutlass and then you can use it again.

How do you get to use ships with broadside? In ship selection over my light gallon it says basic members may not captian.

CaptnKidd 05-23-2007 07:21 PM

Make sure you have your tool bar closed - the treasure chest with icon down the right - if that's open - right click will not work

Broadsides seem to be bassed on experience points, not the ship, or even who's ship it is.

grreat tip on the F1 & F2

Just wish I could get the game to run again - been in dry dock since the May 11 update - Arg!! - will never level up like this.

I got a frigate with broadside cannons. I pull up along side the ships and let loose with the cannons...and they take absolutely no damage. I try it close to them, a medium distance from them, on the up wave, on the down wave, at an angle (for maximum coverage), from behind, etc. Nothing hits the other ships at all. I am more usefull using 1 cannon from the deck.

What is the secret to actually scoring hits with the broadside cannons? I have mastered the 'wait-for-the-cool-down-timers-to-reset' when engaged in battle.
