Some pirates history for you, EITC and the british.

Did anyone here know that most of the East India(not indian) Co. had British?
So when we fight the EITC on pirates we're fighting the british?
And some of the members were dutch too.

There's a thread for britsh and dutch enemy in the ideas forum.

So i'm thinking....shouldn't the EITC enemies have different uniforms sometimes?
To make it easier to see which is which?

Also the EITC had different names for their ships.(Mostly.)

Earl of Abergavenny
Royal Captain
Agamemnon

Were the ships. The royal captain is(was) a East Indiaman. That's the name.
Get it? Man of war indiaman?

Most of the ships i've put down are famous and I got them from wiki.
But isn't taht weird how the ships could have different names? We could even have ultra rare ships to find.
And I haven't even seen a Juggernaut yet!

So just think about that.
Kind of funny how pirates isn't excat in it's history.

I just thought that why are there dutch and british for the EITC but we never heard about that in the game.
Oh well.
So we sort of do have dutch and british enemies. lol
But they should say british EITC and Dutch EITC.

There were less Dutch than british in the EITC though.

Yep.
If only that could be one of the ship classes.
But I don't see how it could be light.
Regular and war yes but light would look funny.

Dr. Zeppers 09-11-2008 06:58 AM

Well that would make sense to me.

Because "EITC" is a company/business technically. Britain's best sailors and privateers would likely want to work for them, more profitable.

Deadeye_Andy 09-11-2008 12:52 PM

Wow, I'm kinda shocked actually.

I thought most people KNEW that the EITC was mostly british. Normally people would say "Dutch" only if they needed to make the distiction.

The EITC was part of Britain's vast empire that they held prior to WWII.
"East India" was used to make the difference known from the "West Indies" which is where we all sail of course in the game! :laughks2:

Starting back in the 1500's Spain had a MUCH larger control over the West Indies and areas of the Gulf Of Mexico, Florida and parts of South America, bringing back vast amounts of gold and trade goods back to Spain.

England, and the Dutch at that time were having a MUCH harder time of it. The French tended to do better than them.

This was when "Privateering" that we're familiar with today was born (Privateering had actually been around for much longer than that, but this time period is where it gave birth to the "Pirates" that we know, love, and play today came from).

The problem was, each country that would "hire" their Privateers, had a nasty habit of turning on them. Sort of trying to "wash their hands" so to speak. Many Privateers suddenly found themselves as outlaws and sentenced to hang by the very country that contracted them in the first place!

Of course, many privateers brought that down on their own heads by playing both sides of the field so to speak! hehehe :piratewheelgo2:

The EITC was an entity almost to it's own. It was formed with a royal charger from Queen Elizabeth I on New Years Eve, 1600.
It pretty much came to rule much of India, and even hired a Privateer, Captain Kidd to help combat piracy in the Indian Ocean.
The EITC became defuct around 1858 and was formally desolved in 1873.

The funny thing is, most Privateering in the Caribbean was carried out by the British against the Spanish: not the EITC

Those Privateers attacking EITC or other "unauthorized" ships, found themselves listed as criminals. The whole idea being that War was wasteful, but capturing Spanish ships and bring them, with their cargo, back to England was not.

However, as you can imagine, EITC ships, full of goods from India were a prize worth considering: Board the ship, kill off the crew, sell off the ship and it's cargo to some neutral port. Only have to worry about your own crew spilling the beans.

Oh, on a side note: piece of trivia for you.
In 2007, a warehouse in India was still listed as being owned by the EITC and was sent an electric bill for it.

??? The Dutch are from Holland or modern day Netherlands. I am surprised that they would have been part of the EIC or EITC since they had a lucrative spice trade with the East Indies.

Interesting very interesting i shall ponder this!

Thanks for the facts i love pirate facts :D

Yeah I knew it was British, at least for the most part, but other than that I don't know a whole lot about the Company, yet I am a history major. Maybe I should read more about it now that I find myself rather fond of this game and my guild mates and friends. Fair winds :)

I just thought they could make higher level EITC and put Dutch EITC enemy or British EITC enemy.
They don't need to for regular EITC but what about higher level EITC?

I like to learn about history and thought hey i'll search the EITC.
Well I think they could make more EITC ships and enemies!

Imagine a level 45-47 East Indiaman.
That would we cool!

Actually the British EIC and the Dutch EIC where two different organizations. The British EIC was known as the Hounorable East India Company and the Dutch EIC was known as VOC (acronym for the Dutch name). There was also a Swedish EIC and and a Danish EIC. The Dutch and the British where enemies and competitors at the time. I've seen it referred to most often as the East India company so that's why I use EIC. The British EIC dominated the the Caribbean so the the men in black we are dealing with are no doubt British. As a side note, the EIC was in no small part responsible for the American Revolution.

You're right.
Although I would like to see British and Dutch EITC.
hopefully if they ever think about adding these into the game the only difference will be that regular EITC are britsh EITC and then Dutch EITC have different uniforms.
No part of the revloution...

Well I may get you there.
The EITC(EIC) sold Tea to the colonists in the Boston Harbor much cheaper than the colonists who made Tea. And the colonists would run out of buisness if they sold it any cheaper so...the boston Tea party happened.
The Tea Act had caused this and one funny part is...if the EIC had never become a company then they never would have sold cheaper tea. Without that ment no boston tea party.
WHich ment....a small part in the start of the revolution.
It did have some effect on teh revolution but not enough to really help start it at all.
But hey, the boston tea party is famous in Americas history and who would want taht to get out of the history books?

But yes you're right.
They had nothing to do with the revolution. Wait I'm changing sides. What I ment to say is having affected the boston tea party. Oh I've confused myself now.
