Connection Problems

Well.. I know there are some threads here about this problem and i wanted to know if there is anymore information around out there about this .. Here it goes

I'm from Australia and I have downloaded and installed, made an account and tried to connect. What comes up is 'connecting' then 'The servers appears to be temporarily unavailable... Still trying'.

Then finally 'could not connect to gameserver.piratesonline.com:7667'

I have forwarded the ports that i have seen people suggest to open but nothing has worked so far. Uninstalled my firewalls and virus programs and still nothing happened. ... Anyone have any ideas?

Are you using a router? Might be something with how your router is configured, but I'm not knowledgeable with how to fix that. Here's hoping that someone will stop by and help you out. :pirate2:

If you are using a router as Lostinthelab mentioned, you might try removing it and going with a direct connection just to test if that makes the difference.

If it does, perhaps a firmware update on your router may also assist in resolving the matter.

I know people are playing from other countries, so either theres a way around it, or thats not necessarily true.

I remember someone from England even using thier own address (complaining about not getting thier crew kit).

I know there is an Official POTCO UK site (http://www.disney.co.uk/piratesonline/), that is different than the main site.

China probably doesnt like pirates though and probably blocks them.. lol

Any update? Were you able to connect finally, and if so what did you do?

If you are talking about an issue where you are privateering and port back for ammo resupply and then when you try to get back on the ship which is currently in battle and you get stuck on the wall paper screen where your pirate is clearly on the ship and you can hear the battle and draw sword etc. but cannot see jack?

This is very common and more of an issue with server lag and almost nothing to do with your particular machine. It is simply the server and all the players in one place pushed to the limit.

If you try to wait it out more then likely it will never go past the screen control/alt/delete and shutting down either the PC or the pirates program is the only option. In these cases you can open a chat window and inform the crew you have to log out but you will be typing blind but they will be able to see your words. if you have a friend on board you can hook up in a minute or two after you log back in and tp to him and add to the crew again.

It is common on abassa and andaba but never had the problem anywhere other then privateering or once in a Boss Battle.

Nothing can be done to prevent it.

This is not the case at all. It is not the servers that are causing a connection issue. The fact that the OP is in Australia is more than likely the reason. The servers are located in the US only. Connecting to servers for any games that are based in other country's will cause similar issues.

If it is locking up while trying to port to a ship, it could very well be a PC issue. Videos drivers are the more likely culprit. It could also be a lack of ram.

Make sure you are not on a wireless connection, your video drivers are up to date, and your ram is not being taxed out by other non essential programs running in the background.

I hope this information helps. :pirate_8:

Live in the US so have no working knowledge on the network issues of connecting to game servers intercontinental.

but as during Halloween any time where Disney has The green aura surrounding everything it slows down everything to a crawl everywhere.

Halloween is over and Disney should get rid of that green aura of doom till about 30 minutes prior to going undead and all.

There are no "networking" issues with game servers over seas, etc.

2 things likely prohibit Disney from offering service directly to these regions.

1. They cannot provide a reasonable gaming experience due to: routing issues, distance, response time, lag, etc.
2. Laws governing users (and thier forms of payment) are different, and may be outside Disney's grasp presently.

In this case users that are able to obtain accounts, etc, are likely having serious issues with the problems referenced in #1.

Issues like national proxies, etc., can badly impact.

Had not considered that, I stand corrected. However I believe in the long run, with the solutions some utilize to bypass, or get through such proxies to play these games it would yet increase the lag factor even further.
