problem with chatting
so i have now been to to POF gatherings in the game and both times i was unable to hear/see anybodys chat. Now the wierd thing is i could hear/see existing friends or guild members talking to me.
I have seen other people mention something about chat settings but i have no idea where to go to check. The other thing i head someone say is they had to click on a plus sign next to the chat skull icon in order for me to hear them...??? idon't have anything that looks like that on my screen. so if anyone has any idea how to adjust my chat settings i'd be very appreciative!! very frustrating problem. |
I could see your text. I dunno why you can't see mine. I don't have an answer for you unfortunately.

I had problems initially with chat as well. I did two things; not sure which one fixed it but:
1. I email support and sent them my files 2. I kept playing around with Parental Controls - try different settings One of those fixed it - within a couple of days, I was able to see the + sign and I was finally able to hear/see other chats; where as before they could hear/see me but I couldn't hear/see them. I'm just happy it works now! Good Luck Mate! |
they have to have the plus sign on to talk to u
|
Yeah I've had this problem when trying to talk to my younger cousin in-game. Because I am on an adult account, I have to click that speech balloon thing next to the skull icon to get the plus sign in it so he can read my messages.

why can't things just work
okay so i've sent in my .log files to bis D and have an open ticket.
Information i've cobbled together suggests a parental/child chat mode thing. Problem is when i went to the web site and followed the link addressing accounts and in particular chat options...i followed the link they povided and did not see the link i was instructed to click on. :degen: so, as i feared its a call to them. ya know the thing that really sucks in all this is i have no idea how long i've had this bug! i thought i ran across an unusual number of pirates that i'd say something to and i'd get no response. egads. :laughks2: anyway, whatever fix or clues i can get from tech support i'll share here. |
Here's the ultimate question: When you type in numbers, does it come out as "arrr"?
|
they go red when i type them so i usually type won for one too for two etc etc

Ahhhh, I see the problem now. You're on a kiddie account, the kind that are set for under age 13. So to talk to you, we need the cross on. |
hmmmm..that makes sense since we originally got the game so my six year old son could play.
thanks for the tip savvy, i will call disney to update my account. |
okay so here's what i learned (not that anyone cares...but someone might find it good info).
Disney can't change a child account to an adult account. i don't know why, seems Disney would just pull up the account info hit the drop down menu and choose adult instead of child...but it doesn't work that way. But what i can do is create an adult unlimited account, then they transfer my pirates to this new account and then make my old account basic (for linking purposes). ...because i know you ALL really don't care about my issue at this point lol so the on line chat person didn't know squat. called disney support and they informed me that i myself had an account associated with my sons account (i guess that was a requirment when signing him up). I don't recall setting it up initially however after resetting MY p/w i could then go in and update the chat settings on HIS account so my pirates now have full chat capability. phew, what an ordeal. so, this should close this thread me thinks. p.s. can't wait for the next POF gathering so i can finally talk to you folks! |
HAHAHAHA Sorry, its just funny that Disney doesnt have as good a handle on this stuff as they should.
I was trying to understand (in my own head.. i was quiet about it) how an account could have child restrictions on it without a primary adult account to be overseeing it initiating the control. Disney should have seen this immediately. I wouldnt be surprised if the Disney person you spoke with on the phone thought you were the child trying to get his parents restrictions removed. (you did such a great job of sounding 'adult' on the phone too.. lol) |
well i'm at work so i haven't had chance to test it. i'll pm you before i log on tonight...could be as late as 8pm west coast. if you are around maybe you can help test it for me.
but you are correct, part lameness on my aco**** because i didn't recall the sign up process but also really lame on disney's part not recognizing the issue. |
Nothing at all on you bud... I think Disney fumbled when you called them.
We are allowed to make these mistakes, there supposed to be there to help us when we do. I only meant to laugh at them... with you ;) |
