Mixed weapon attacks
What happens in terms of skill points when you attack an enemy with a mix of weapons?
Sometimes I'll start off at a distance with a grenade toss on a high level enemy, knock off 800 - 1000 pts; then hit him once or twice with a thrown dagger as he runs over; then switch to the cutlass FTK. Doesn't seem to me that any weapons get skill points awarded except the final weapon I make the kill with. And it seems like final weapon's xp is lower than if I'd just engaged him with that weapon alone. Maybe I'm not seeing things right, how does this work? |
Rewarded Reps are divided amongst the weapons used based on the level of thier participation in the battle.
Simply put, if you kill an enemy, and took 50% of its health with dagger, and then the other 50% of its health with cutlass, and you received 100 pts. Each weapon should have been rewarded roughly 50 pts credit. Now that is just a basic way of looking at it, and not exact, because each weapon, and the skills used with that weapon, will vary the VALUE of the attacks used. Using 10 dagger attacks to take an enemies health down to 50%, may not be as valued by the game as 10 attacks with your cutlass to finish it off (or vica versa), this will cause the distribution to vary, and not be evenly divided as in my 'basic' description at the start. Mixing up the weapons you use is a decent way to try to spread out leveling up your weapons. A weapon theoretically can reward 100 pts per enemy, if you can use enough attacks from that weapon. Due to this, theoretically, you can also get more than 100 pts per enemy, if you use more than one weapon. If you can hit the enemy with the required number of attacks to receive 100pts with each weapon, you can get actually (in theory) up to 600reps for one enemy (provided you get enough attacks from each of your 6 possible weapons). This would give you 100reps 'per' weapon, which would be applied to each weapons experience. Crew bonus's would of course increase reps further. |
Thanx Zep. That's what I was hoping was the case.

Very nicely explained Zep :)

That was explained well, and almost surprised someone understands this. Don't know how many times I have told people this and yet it seems so many never get it.
This is why its good to use one point in most your first attacks. Use pistol - hex shot, doll - curse, shackles, and first couple attacks on dagger or cutlass. This type of low damage multi attacks builds three weapons at once. Grenades is the most obvious, with smoke bombs. Hex shot, doll, and like 20 smoke bombs, always give 100 on grenades. To see how much you are getting watch in the right - bottom corner of your computer, it will show xp you receive for the weapon you have active. So if you get a total of 168 , on the corner it will show 100. This can change quite a bit in level of critter, such as Molusk, level 34 or level 38 ones. Takes more hits basically on the higher level one to kill it, so generally higher xp. You want to get really deep into this, you will check how many hits it takes on each level critter to get the 100 rep, use other attacks for what health it has left from there. |
