Glitches and Playing the game
Glitches can be totally used to your advantage sometimes, but I was wondering. If working on your quests and leveling up your weapons, do you see glitches as a "cheat"? I mean, I feel like if I use a glitch, im taking the fun out of the gameplay. Now if I was using a second pirate after already completing the quest on a first one, then I might use them but for now, I feel like I'm taking the fun out of the game! How do you feel about them? :piratear:

i have not used any glitches, but have stumbled on a few.... i thnk they may be ok for lvling weaps after boss but prior to that using them can become a crutch... u may not mean them to be but ultimatley they r and u lose the overall concept of gameplay... learning what ammo types to use on villians and stuff... and remeber that when u share a glitch w/ someone it spreads like wild fire.... and soon the rooaming developers that frequent this site and may be incognito....... on the live game will catch word of it and fix.... early in gaming we called these things easter eggs.... like a random treat... dont rely on them.....
das jus' my opinion |
You'll find plenty of people on both sides of this question. On my first pirate when the game launched there were enough things that weren't all the way worked out (anything 10 levels below you couldn't hurt you, still got rep after mastering a weapon, etc.) so you really didn't need glitches. On my second I would use them to get done with the mindless grinding that comes after you're done with the quests.
I'm now on my 3rd pirate and at lvl 31. During the black pearl quest I didn't use the glitches, not because I felt using them was cheating, but generally most glitches only benefit higher levels that are at the point beyond questing. I mean a level 15 to 24 with mid level weapons running around outcast using the glitch would be there forever trying to kill stumps, they just aren't high enough to do any real damage. So I don't consider them cheats. If someone wants to use them, fine it's their game to play how they want to. Glitches come and go. When one is fixed another takes it's place and part of the fun of any game is finding the news ones. |
I know that I find myself on both sides of the philosophical question. For example, the Catacombs glitch at the top of the stairs, I do use for leveling up grenades. But grenades are their own special problem. You have the problem of learning the two types of aiming them, PLUS the struggle to survive once you do learn how to aim. Enough raiders make it through that wall to make you have to pay attention, anyway. But I get disgusted when I see an idiot with a repeater cheat, leveling up their dagger in that same place. Likewise, it is pathetic to see someone leveling up their voodoo staff from that same place. I find myself asking, "did they make it to level thirty without learning how to sail to Kingshead?"
I guess the real problem I have, is with the grenades. In real life, a single grenade would kill everyone nearby. In game play, they scratch monsters insignificantly. Since the metaphor starts out broken, it seems reasonable to cheat, to bring grenades a little bit closer to reality. But even mastered, grenades are an unusable weapon...whenever you are in a situation where you might need to use them, doing so would send your pirate to jail. About the cheats, in general, there is a level of sophistication required to learn just how to do one - a brand new player is not going to stumble across one. By the time you figure out how to use one to your advantage, some aspects of the game are already repetitive. |
I dont consider them cheats until someone "relies" on them.
Using them is not 'relying' on them, so I dont see any harm in using them unless it gives unfair advantages say in PVP for example. IMO If someone doesnt want them posted/shared because they are afraid they will be fixed, then they are finding/using them for the wrong reasons. These types are relying on them to play the game (a crutch), not using them for any additional entertainment they may allow us. This is a script kiddie "cheat" attitude in my opinion. Not only should they be shared, but reported so they WILL be fixed. We ALL should WANT them fixed, it hinders the games progression. |
I use glitches to AMAZE my friends the only way i woul see glitches as cheats is if someone entered a code for extra rep or gold

I am on two sides of this issue. Yes I don't tell of some I know, why get more people doing it than what I have seen already. I am against the pvp glitches and players using a trick to beat others because they can't game play well enough with out it.
Glitches through out the game that helps in leveling and such things, I don't see so much a problem with. If you reach 40 in a week sooner than you would of before, who does that effect. You have nothing else to do a week sooner, so what. There are so many out there, I doubt many play with out using one, one way or other. Using grenades at King's for instance , is a glitch, if you use protection from the soldiers getting to you. Using the sailing glitch to be invulnerable, I see quite often now. Even using a teleport to your cargo quest location is a glitch. Many of these are easy to figure out if you try it or just think about it for a second, new player or not. I could argue its good for grenades because they are lame, but the real fact is, the grenades were made lame in the fact that you can't put points into them and get the same rep you do by not putting points into them. I wouldn't call them useless though, a full stat siege bomb kills most anything in one hit up to level 30 or so. As that goes, it actually does the most single amount of damage in pvp versus anything else. |
Thanks for the opinions guys...was curious to know what ya'll thought!

I just wish someone would explain the glitches to me so that I could use them! I don't know one single glitch.:bookishfj7:

I view glitches the same way I view Gameshark - I don't have the skills of other players, therefore I need to use any advantage I can. Like I stink at gernades. So if I knew the Padres behind the wall glitch, I'd probably use it just to level up my gernades. (I couldn't even level them up during the double rep weekend. That's how bad I am with them.) At least get them to level 15. After that unless there's special quests you get at level 20 I wouldn't use them that much.

HOWEVER if the last part "wouldn't use them that much" is key to you... Noone ends up using them "that" much. Although they do occasionally have some uses. That siege grenade is the one that looks bigger than a bowling ball... Fun to fool around with, but not real "useful". I use the silly glitchs to do this stuff occasionally, for similar reasons Jami. I consider it like this, if any person is being cheated.. its myself. Using the glitchs to cheat AGAINST others (SvS/PvP) is where I start having a problem with them. :) |
Yeah I'd never use it during PVP UNLESS they had already agreed to it to help me with a PVP quest. That way they know about it and obviously have no problem with it.
But man, wish I knew that Padres glitch. Does it also work for pistols and daggers, BTW? I'd love to get those up to level 15 too. |

Once again I couldn't agree more with Zeppers
mebbe cuz us old farts think all too much alike. I think glitching is fun. I know most of them but I only use one or two most of the time and then only if Im at some disadvantage in terms of time.
For instance, I might get 30 minutes on the old "computation machine" or perhaps an hour on the company laptop in between testing because my lovely wife, who was just granted  the Wal Mart award for the "Teacher of the Year" in our school district btw, at first I thought it was for the state but she corrected me as n e teacher of the year would ... is hoarding the Dreadwash family pc, I might get in a few moments a day after football practice - I am an assistant coach. Therefore I think I deserve to glitch when I sail for instance if I want to get my cannon level up a little. However any glitch that hurts a fellow player or harms code in any way is unacceptable to me. The glitch where you take over another players ship for instance or attack another pirate is way off limits and out of bounds. Dog Dreadwash lvl 40 |
