Have you ever crewed with a stranger(s) to get crew points?
i have! :laughks2: if you happen to be in the same place lvling with somebody, why not crew up and get some extra points? you're both there anyway!
[edit] i was mainly talking about while you're lvling. there have been several times where i'm in Tormenta and someone else comes in. if they're not being annoying and minding their own business, they're there anyway so you might as well crew up and get more points. |
I don't usually crew up unless its with friends or guildmembers. The few times I did crew up with strangers, they all asked what type of ship everyone had. I mentioned I had a frigate everyone decided we should use my ship. Okay fine. I had to kick three different people off the wheel. Thats the one thing I don't tolerate is the hijack of my ship. Needless to say, I don't crew up unless I know at least a few of the crew members. Well unless someone asks for help with the Black Pearl. I guess I'm becoming more easily irrated in my old age. LOL.:pirate2:

Remember you're not just crewing with a random person, you're crewing with everyone they crewed with (and maybe everyone they crewed with)
It's just too risky. |
On ships I crew with random people all the time, but not really for the bonus - I've mastered sailing and need to up my cannon. Since I don't let strangers sail my ships, crewing for other captains is the way I've had to go. Unfortunately, even on a "good" crew everyone's using lighting and the enemy goes down so fast I'm lucky to get ten points. The alternative, which I've been doing more and more, is sailing alone, parking somewhere safe, and then sinking everything in the vicinity by myself. Better rep, but pretty darn boring...
I will crew with strangers in the cave, though, for points and easy ammo runs. I've actually made some good friends that way. :) Also, LoL @ mongo's response. Too funny. :laughks2: |
I've been crewing up with random people lately and so far it has not become a problem and actually quite enjoyable. I am not fond when some crew members that join my crew sail off in their own ships while my crew and I are already in a ship. Why not just board my ship and take a cannon?

lol, that is really funny! |
Since they added the "Find a Crew" feature, before Ruby joined her guild, she would use that every so often for cannon practice.
Sometimes it was like pulling teeth with no novocaine... |
I do. Last night I was at tormenta trying to level up. There were a few others there doing the same thing. We all crewed together and it helped alot. Not only were we able to keep an eye on everyones health and heal if htey got too low, but the crew reps and go-to incase u die.....Lets just say I added a few to my friends list last night.

I have crewed from time to time, in most cases it demonstrated how many people don't know what they are doing, nor what you are doing. Tormenta is a great example. Even had a guy come up to me telling me i am a newb, shouldn't be fighting like that. Just as this level 39 character finished spitting that out I hit level 40, after a time period of like three weeks.
This sorta is how it ends up when you crew, too many think that means everything you hit (especially the lower levels) is fare game. When working on something like nades, setting it up to use smoke bombs to get more rep, someone comes along and kills it before ya get the smoke bomb attacks on it. This costs ya like 40 rep each time then, and you are actually loosing rep in a crew. Let alone setting up two molusk to hit with each grenade. We eventually addressed some of these issues within our own guild, many times they would do this same thing as well. We have a few rules to porting to officers, and always coming to them attacking what they are working at. It can get bad if you have friends coming all the time on top of guildies, just the moment you are about to release a siege bomb, and hits the incoming player to kill you. Now this isn't always the case of course, but more times than not it is. |
Yes, I do it all the time. I've met most of my friends this way. If I see someone leveling where I am, I wait a while to see if they will mind their own business and not come over and try to steal the rep from what I am killing. If they keep to themselves, after a while I will often go over and ask if they want to crew up just for the rep. Most people will say yes.

I'll crew up and join a crew if they have a big health amount and are on a ship, or if they ask for help or me to join them. I can't say I have, however, crewed up with someone nearby for leveling since the new system was implemented.
|
I'll only crew a stranger when im wearing a coat. Otherwise I only crew close friends.
|
The few times I crewed with strangers at least one person would act so childish and annoying I wouldn't even sail with them. Now I only crew with guild members. Though if someone from these forums wanted to crew with me because we had a quest in common I'd be willing to accept.
|
I have occasionally crew'ed up with strangers for the rep bonus, however I have only done this on land, not at sea where a team effort (or at least coordination) is alot more important.

LOL I wont crew at sea with people I dont know. If I know a few shipmates, than thats a different story. Most of the time I crew with friends at sea and keep the strangers to land where I can run away if they start to scare me.
