Which Game Engine Is It Built On?

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere before, but I haven't been able to find it. I'm assuming Disney didn't write the core engine for this game. The graphics and gameplay look very familiar. Is this one of the Everquest engines?

Thanks,

Michael

Not sure but Ive heard it is similar to WOW.

Hmmm....you could narrow it down by finding another MMO game that has serious lag and disconnect issues.

It reminds me in a lot of ways of Project Entropia/Entropia Universe. Whatever that is built on is my guess.

Edit: NVM, it's Panda3D, a Disney game engine

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Wikipedia is wrong. I don't see any similarities between TT and POTC. Has to be different engines.

While the game was still in Beta 2, when I logged in, it would flash one of the TT screens before going to the Pirates loading screen. I haven't seen that happen for a long time though.

I see that you guys seem to know alot about what you're talkin about. ;).
because i don't know if i do. lol. but, i was going to mention the fact that, it does look ver familiar, i do agree with Angel saying 'WOW' being apart of it. and also strathound. keep in mind that Wikipedia, can be edited by anybody at any given time. ;)
lol. and PLEase, if anybody knows things about engines, please let me know. xD

There are a few threads on the Panda3D engine and its uses for both TT and Pirates...

But not only do you get the same Design Engine as TT, but much of the Battle Code and how it calculates damage also comes from TT (and a large drawback - as it is Hit Ratio based and not Damage Based - meaning more weaker attacks produce more REP points than less stronger attacks...)

Oh well - as long as your in it for the play then its ok :)

It is definitely Panda3D.
Open the game folder and we can see
libpanda.dll, libpandadx8.dll, libpandaegg etc.

I'm not sure if this will help but in the early days of POTCO, whenever I opened up pirates it said 'Do you want to let ToontownInstaller.exe connect to the internet?'

I'm pretty sure it tis Panda3D

Panda looks like a winner. I wonder if u got the TT stuff cause of ruminants from the TT game (both Disney) and devs might be sleeping.

If you go into Task Manager when Pirates loading program is running, it is listed as ToonTown launcher

strathound 05-19-2008 10:19 PM

Wow. I'm impressed. I'm not a big fan of Toon Town, not even for my kids. Seemed like a nice first try, but definitely not a first class game. I would never have guessed that they built a game like this using the same code base. Guess it wasn't the engine's fault it was so bad.
