"Display driver igfx has stopped responding..."

I've looked all over the Internet trying to find an explanation or fix but no one even seems to agree on what's causing this. Any ideas? What I don't get is that my game ran fine from November through March, with the occasional disconnected-from-server message. A couple weeks ago, I had to re-install Pirates, and ever since, my game has been a mess. Crashes everywhere.

Using Vista or XP? That error is a generic Intel Graphics Driver failure. Which card/chip do you have? The Intel 82945G seems to have problems with a lot of games. Are you doing anything particular when it happens or is it random? The latest update has caused many people video issues. You might try to roll back the driver and reinstall it (boy, I sound more like D every day). Their website lists the following for Intel based video cards:

Intel® 82865G - Drivers available for XP
Intel® 82915G Express Chipset - Drivers available for XP
Intel® 82945G Express Chipset - Drivers available for XP and Vista
Intel® G965 Express Chipset / Intel® GMA 3000 - Drivers available for XP and Vista

The following 3-D video cards may cause serious performance issues in Pirates of the Caribbean Online and are not officially supported:

Intel® 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller

The following 3-D cards are older, and have not been tested -- it is unlikely that they will work well with Pirates Online:

Intel I-865
Intel I-845
Intel 82810E Graphics Controller

The full list of supported video cards can be found HERE as well as links to updated drivers for the different cards. Other than that, I am afraid i have no idea. Good luck.

Not a problem. I am ordering a new system myself. The Sony VAIO VGX-TP20E. It has the NVidia 8400M GT in it, which is not even one of the listed cards, so I guess I will see if it works. If not, I am just out of luck. It is a Media System, so I can hook it to my entertainment system and just leave it there. I get tired of plugging/unplugging my laptop in to the TV and my other PC is just too cumbersome to fit anywhere near the entertainment center.

Let us know if you got back up and running Lib.

I was having an issue with my display drivers crashing before the updates were launched. This would happen every other day or so, causing the game to crash and I'd have to start from scratch. I checked my drivers, and they were up to date. Then, one day, there was a new driver for me to update. I did that and haven't had a problem with a crash of that nature since.

Thanks for the input, Eustace. I have a 965 Express Chipset & Windows Vista. I've wondered why it was working fine for so long then all the sudden, problems. I did notice I got a driver update for the Chipset right around the time this started happening. Maybe that along with re-installing the game plus Disney's updates combined have caused the trouble. I'll try rolling back the driver tomorrow and see if that helps.

Alas, no, that didn't do a thing. I can't roll back the drivers. Guess my computer is still too new. I did get a Chipset update in April, but apparently it had nothing to do with drivers.

I still have my suspicions that it has something to do with the game update. The last update before they brought out the weapons messed up my display settings and wouldn't let me turn off fullscreen. Of course, every time I send a bug report to Disney, I get the same response: it's latency, and I need to upgrade to DSL (which I have) or contact my ISP.

Oh, well. I'll keep looking while I'm relogging the game - again and again and again.

I would really love to know what the latency threshold needs to be for them to stop using this reasoning. You can see the latency and sync in game by pressing shift+f7, if I remember correctly. I would love to see them say that the latency needs to be less than X and reply with a screenshot that shows that it is, indeed, less than X.

Sorry to hear it still does not work. You might also want to just load the driver back over top of the existing one, or torn off/on DirectX in the game_options.txt. I had many issues when they suggested that I change mine, so I changed it back and have been fine since. Hope you get it figured out.
