Mo' Updates, Mo' Problems
Like other people, ever since they April Update launched, people in my guild have been having various issues with game play.
We've discussed updating the video card, switching to quiet servers, defragging, virus scans, you name it. These solutions have only brought about slight improvements. So I was hoping that someone here could pass along some information that I can send back to my guildies. These issues are so bad that they're keeping people from playing, as I have seen others mention here. So I'm hoping that I can hear what other people have done to deal with these issues. |
I did the online chat today and after explaining the same issues (Lag and such) on a mac, the result was they told me the issue is on my end. They said that the lag is related to latency. However, when I checked the router and speed tests they all came out fine..
After talking to support today they told me all my issues are related to latency and that no one else is having these kinds of issues. To be honest, the lag is so bad the game is unplayable when out at sea. |
I believe Shift+f7 will actually show your sync and latency, if I remember correctly. So get the number for them and ask what the latency should be for smooth performance.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to pass it on now.

Disney always tells you it's latency if they have no clue what else might be causing it - they do the same on TT. Their customer support is lacking.
Regarding problems - the only one I've really seen since the update is loading screens sometimes take longer than usual and I've had the gun freeze bug a few times. I'm thankful it's not been worse. All I can suggest is asking others here what helps, sending bug reports so they realize that there really is a problem and playing on quieter areas. |
We have two men down in our guild right now. Since the update, the game play has been so terrible for one that he can't even play. Crashes whenever he sails, TP screens load and never stop, and crazy lag - all of this keeping him off the game. For the other one, he crashes when a ship ports, or he can't board the ship at all because it never loads, and when he does sail the game is beyond laggy. Neither one can TP really.
Both of them were playing perfectly fine up until the update. So I find it hard to believe that the problems are specific to just their computers. There has to be more to it. I know that people were having similar issues, so I'm just curious to see if anyone has found any helpful fixes to this over the past few days. They updated their graphics drivers, which helped a bit. Now one of them can play the game, so long as he pretty much stays in the same spot to fight. But once he starts moving, the lag comes in. The other one won't even bother signing on right now. It's been a bit since I first posted this thread, so I wanted to check back and see if anything new has come up. I appreciate the help. Thanks. |
I got word of the new changes in Pirates and logged to my trial pirate a couple of days ago to check them out. Experienced a lot of lag and crashes; it was really discouraging.
One thing I did notice was that the game seemed to now be using port 1935 TCP while running. I don't recall it doing that before. I was too disgusted at the time with seeing some of the same old bugs in the game to care about playing with port triggering to see if it helped, so I didn't bother. Maybe some of you guys that play on wireless routers or behind hardware firewalls might want to take a look at that and see if it might be something that makes a difference. |
Thanks for the quick response on that one. That's a possible solution that I haven't heard before. I'm going to pass that along right now.

For what it is worth, I have tried both wired and wireless, three different lans (one Fios, one DSL, and even 3 bonded Ts at work). I have tried several different macs some running 10.4 some 10.5 some laptop and some desktop. They all have the same lag issue when at sea. When I tried to give the live chat the latency numbers they did not want to hear them. I asked what was a "acceptable latency" they would not tell me. Right now, I personally find that this game is a waste of Money..

When the update first came out, I could not sail on one of my systems.. further potco updates since have resolved that problem.
When the udpate first came out, and my system wouldnt sail, I immediately attempted driver updates, they did not help. After potco updated again... it still did not work, UNTIL I restored back to my previous (older) set of drivers, after I did that, it worked fine again. IF your friends tried driver updates or anything after they started having problems, they might try going back to thier original configuration (ie system restore) that last worked with the game. I have experienced slower screen loading, Tp'ing not as responsive. I've had to click on my map 3-5 times to get it to tp. I've also had the weapon sticking, however i've had it happen with my dagger, and cutlass, as well as my pistol. Any lag issues I have had, were during heavy sailing battles, but this wasnt particularly... 'new'. Zeppers lvl40 http://pirates.teamofx.us |
Have you all had any issues from the most recent update on 5/11/08? Funnily enough, I didn't have the problems described until last nights update happened and I started randomly crashing. It can't be my settings, because I haven't changed anything since before the update. Now I crash while playing normally between 10-30 minutes ( and generally at the most inconvenient times! WHERE'S MY BOOTY!!!! )
I used to be able to run none stop without ever getting booted. I miss it already. Did the port 1935 TCP work for anybody? |
My friend was having issues prior to the patch yesterday (hasn't happened to him yet since) where he'd get booted out of the game randomly and fairly often. Most of the time it seemed to happen when he tried to get out his ship. Disney has told him on several occasions that it's his video card driver when he's running a Geforce 8800GTX with the most current drivers. His system puts the min requirements to shame but Disney refuses to admit that the game is actually messed up.
I am running a Geforce 8800GT 512MB with Vista Ultimate 4GB of RAM and an AMD x2 6000+ and I have "graphic lag" issues quite a bit as well. I've even turned all the graphic settings all the way down. I can play games like Frontlines: Fuel of War or Battlefied 2/2142 on full settings with no problems but it seems Disney has figured out how to bring it down in a hurry... |
Guess I am going to have to agree with last few posts. Its rediculous the lack of tech support, seeing that, all over on other forums and reviews by other players.
Last update couldn't be much worse if it was a straight virus. Undead areas glitch and stop, then you are killed. Ships stop, then a ship has attacked you twice and is on the other side of ya. Run two computers exactly the same, same internet, one locks up, other is fine, then vise a versa. Latency, pff. Its ok, its all of our fault. At least before this everyone wasn't getting booted out and total lock-ups, just lag in ship fire, big crew activity and few things like that. Looks like its going to be sit and wait to see if anything goes up hill now, rather than just down hill. |
they r doing major marketing for summer vacay 10+ players... i thnk younger set mainly they are on at toon tym and Saturday morning i saw commercial sevral tyms, all the traffic is undoubtedly causing some of the lagg because in the wee hours it is actually peacefull me & mates have found ourselves playing moonlight shift
............................ SIDEBAR: with the added role call of plyrs ( again younger set, i suspect ) I have found the caribbean to be a less friendly place... srry not pointing the finger but there has been an onslaught of rudeness.... i have found.... i have even heard rumour that because of so much verbal fighting at KH during nade lvl up they have changed the format there... lets try to keep each other in chk plz and let one another now about how to act i dont want our game to go down the wrong path |
I went back to my old video card with 64 MB and old drivers and it is working pretty good for me now. Still slow sometimes but it is my video card lack of memory.
