Release Notes - April 30 2008

Release Notes - April 30 2008

* New quests have been added for level 4 weapon upgrades for: Sword, Pistol, Dagger, Voodoo Doll and Voodoo Staff. These weapon quests will automatically appear in your journal once you've reached level 15 Notoriety for that weapon.
* You can now have an "inventory" of tattoos. You no longer have to remove a tattoo in order to buy a new - you can buy several and wear them whenever you want.
* Light Galleon ships are now available to Basic Access players.
* Fixed a bug occurring in Basic Access mode that was causing an "Upgrade Now" popup to appear every time you defeated an enemy, if you were carrying a blocked quest.
* Ammo pouches are now available for purchase. These pouches allow you to carry more ammo (i.e. bullets, cannonballs, daggers, grenades) than the base amount.
* It's now easier to find a crew using your crew panel (to open your crew panel: hit the "F" key and then press the "Crew" button). You can now:
o Create a crew: Crew Options -> Start A Crew
o Search for crewmates (once you've started a crew): Crew Options -> Recruit Crewmates (there are also some advanced options for the more discerning captains)
o Join someone else's crew: Crew Options -> Search For A Crew
o Let others near you know that you are looking for a crew: Crew Options -> Looking For Crew
* Better bonuses for crewing have been added: the notoriety bonus for a crew of 2 is 20%, and it ramps up to a max bonus of 50% for an 8 person crew.
* Improved whisper functionality:
o The chat panel remains in whisper mode as long as the player doesn't click X or try to reply to an absent avatar
o By pressing "Alt-Enter", you can automatically whisper to the player that most recently whispered to you
o The chat panel now provides more feedback when trying to send a whisper to someone who went away
* Modified the way NPC's target their attackers: they used to attack the person that first attacked them, but will now switch between attacking the person doing the most damage, as well as others nearby that are doing damage.
* The first voodoo doll quest, acquired at level 5, is now available to Basic Access players
* Shortened the length of the groggy penalty
* Shortened recharge time for tonics
* Added a "/event" command so you can see what events are in progress and how much time is remaining. In order to activate this feature, type "/event" into your chat panel
* Fixed the bug that was allowing strangers to board your ship. Only the captain's friends and crewmates are now able to board
* Added the following new quests that provide jewelry and tattoo rewards that you cannot buy in shops:
o "Spy Trouble"
+ Receive from Perla Alodia, Jeweler on Padres Del Fuego
o "Black Market"
+ Receive from Mercedes Corazon, Tattoo Artist on Padres Del Fuego
o "Eliminating The Competition"
+ Receive from Dajin Ming, Jeweler on Tortuga
o "Lala's Brother"
+ Receive from Lala Lovel, Tattoo Artist on Tortuga

+ Receive from Mercedes Corazon, Tattoo Artist on Padres Del Fuego

I purchased the medium grenade pouch for 4k, and it gave me 125 explosives, 70 Stink pot and Flame burst, and 35 Smoke. I bought the medium cannon pouch for 2k, and got 150 each for Thunderbolt and Flamebrand.

EDIT: I'm mostly through the dagger quest now. They're typical laundry lists; however, either the counters are off, or you only randomly get credit for things along the way.

Thanks for the list. I wonder when they are going to get around tot he Kingshead teleport totem quest?

Steely Jim 04-30-2008 02:31 PM

Yeah, let's keep hoping that means they have some sort of goal for building up to a big summer expansion.

EDIT: I'm definitely not receiving credit for everything. For example, I now have to 5 & 10 items from EITC ships, and 10 items from Skeleton ships. I sank a couple Ogres without getting anything, and then only 1 out of 3 Ironwalls gave me an item.

It's a little early to tell, but they seem to have either given the previously existing flagships and upper-level ships a wider sailing range when not bing sunk regularly , or they've added in some new spawns. They may also have improved the enemy ship AI somewhat; the enemy ships don't seem to be as inclined to sail straight at me after I've hit them.

Yes! Now my maxed basic access guildies can get Dolls! And Light Galleons! Can't wait to help out some of them! This will be awesome!

I told you the updates were coming out tonight, didn't I? :psmiley27:

I also picked up the Medium sizes of both items. Somebody told me on Test that the Large Cannonball Barrel only upped the amount held to 175. If that's true, then the Medium Barrel is the much better deal.

Based upon my experience on Test, I think that many of the "Kill X enemies" tasks should have had a Level specified, though not all of them did. For example, I noticed that only Dire Wasps above Level 10 would count, etc. It was a similar story with most of the other beasties.

The real pain was sinking ships to find pages of Pirate Lore for the Cutlass quest. I'm used to not finding items on every ship -- but it took me 5 Barracudas until I got the first page off one, and I honestly lost track of the number of Marauders I sank in order to find the 10 pages I needed. I'm guessing it was close to 20.

Wow I cant wait to get the game goin on this PC to check it out. Finally something to spend gold on!!!

Steely Jim 04-30-2008 03:08 PM

Well, I think I retract most of my wishful thinking on the improved AI. It may apply somewhat when they've closed on you, and you've left them plenty of sail power...so, not that applicable at all.

The next trip was more reliable, and I'm down to only needing 14 items out of 25.

A better deal yes, but if you don't anything to spend your money on, it's not a bad way to do it.

Does anyone know exactly how the crewing works with the minimun lvl +/- things?
I'm pretty certain it relates to your lvl, and how close you want players to your playing level right?

So if i was lvl 30, would mean players from lvl 0 - 60 are able to join correct?
And if it was set to say 15, only players from lvl 15 - 45 would be able to join.

I'm pretty certain that is how it works, but I put it to 40 and my friend couldn't join.

It's not +/- your level; it's their level. So, if you said level 30, pirates around level 30 would join. Same with the sailing and cannon dealies.

I don't know if they wrote this on the notes too, but they changed the people on the compass to green and NPC's to Blue.

I don't like that at all. I'm really happy to have the new quests and new weapons - I love the look of the new staffs and dolls. But the townsfolk blue and pirates green doesn't make any sense. The townsfolk still have green names, and guild chat is blue; shouldn't they have kept the compass dots to match?

Crashed SEVERAL times as always with new updates, and I'm not sure the Boss Battle is working. We tried to go last night but our entire crew crashed. The battle started and we went to a black screen and then nothing. We all had to relog without getting anywhere near the Pearl. I hope that was just a fluke!
