What skills do you really use
What skills are the best to use after you max out your skill? (25)
What skills are just kinda pointless? What skills are you always using? I, myself, find swarm, chain shot, endurance, focus, venom shot, asp, adder, cleave, and scorch to be wasted skills. |
Well I'm trying to create a brand new character to fill up my last slot. I hope to have his or her skills like this: upgrading all depends on a person's preferences...
CANNON: Barrage- 5 points Round shot- 5 points Thunderbolt- 5 points 16 points left SAILING: Right Broadside- 5 points Left Broadside- 5 points 16 points left CUTLASS: I don't know if I want to max anything at all. If they add new skills, I'm waiting patiently before I put points into anything. Idk. Nothing i've seen is good for me besides combos, which cause substansial damage for me already. I don't think upgrading them is nescessary unless I come across an enemy that surpasses me. (It must be an enemy I'm required to defeat often or beat for a quest.) 26 points left. DAGGER: Blade Instinct- 5 points. It upgrades damage for TWO weapons. TWO. Idk what's not to like. 21 points left GUN: Take aim- 5 points Lead shot- 5 points 16 points left GRENADE: Explosion grenade- 5 points Long volley - I'll unlock it with one point. I want the skill to throw farther, don't care of the damage rate. - 1 point. Demolitions- 5 points. I stink at aiming. This is my only hope. rofl. 15 points left VOODOO DOLL: Poke - 5 points Heal - 5 points 16 points left VOODOO STAFF: Blast- 5 points Spirit Mastery- 5 points 16 points left. Well that's it. I'm always looking for new, worth-while specials and attacks to put points into. |
I am constantly using:
Sailing: Mastered, so I use Ramming Speed and Full Sail Cannon: Lightning Bolt, Fury Cutlass: Bladestorm, Brawl Pistol: Silver Shot, Hex Eater Shot Doll: Mastered, so I use Heal and Cure Dagger: Viper's Nest, Throw Dirt, Sidewinder Grenades: Smoke Bomb Staff: Flaming Skull, Pestilence, Banish |
I'd really like to see a list of each weapon type, with what people think is the most important to have max. I'm a mid level pirate (note 20) leveling my first pirate. I know I'm going to make mistakes and eventually make another pirate that has points allocated the way I want them, but if anyone has some guidance on the MAIN things to spend points on, I would appreciate it.
I have a feeling that once you become a master, there will only be about 2 things you use from each different weapon (not counting sailing). What are these 2 things for most of you? |
I use a 5 point life drain, a 4 point swarm, and a 3 point poke on my voodoo doll. Swarm and poke recharge so fast I can get many hits in, and Lifedrain is just too useful as a healing tool and offensive skill.
For my cutlass most of the points are in combo skills, 2 points in Sweep and Bladestorm and a point in brawl and taunt. Dagger points are all spread out. I use all my throw skills and combo attacks, and I put points in Finesse and Blade Instinct. Voodoo staff has maxxed out wither and flame skull. No other active skills have points (aside from the one you are given in soul flay). All the rest of the points are in the passive skills. Pistol I got 2 points in hex, 3 in steel and 2 in silver. Think I have 4 or 3 in lead shot. 2 points in take aim, 4 in shoot. Got a couple in eagle eye too. |
poke, heal, lightning, full sail, ramming speed and treasure sense. Thats what I use most right now, just got my grenades and I am playing with those right now, can't wait to get the staff. :D

Daggers Full viper nest its awesome
|
You will always see me using...
for Sword: Bladestorm and Sweep Pistol: Metal shots, and Hex Eaters Doll: Life Drain, and Cure/Heal Dagger: Vipers Nest and Sidewinder Grenade: Siege Change, Fire Bomb Staff: Flaming Skull and Wither, always wither. :D Sailing: Full sail/ramming speed Cannon: Fury and Lightning |
I definately use flourish and thrust, bladestorm, maxxed.
I think endurance is worthless for cutlass, as well as cleave. (simply because id rather do an extra 2k of damage rather than have a measly 125 hp, i put it into storm, since most high level enemies take off 100+ hp a hit, thats one extra hit..or cut his life in half..hmm) For Dagger i like throw dirt and finesse (2 on dirt and maxxed finesse, the charge time is perfect, as it is ready right as they come off blindness) worthless skills to me are probably the last 2 combo moves, as if you boost all of them, you can do the cut, swipe, /dirt/knife throws, into swipe again, doing some decent damage, and continuing a nasty cycle. Cannon, I think round shot is worthless to max, but i did the mistake of that, (dont get me wrong its still decent damage, but considering i had done this before the ammo upgrades, its redundant now, as you'll never run out of ammo unless youre a horrible shot. chain and grape are too (grape only needs a few hits to take down a mast, it IS strong, but its range is so pathetic and its arc is so hard to aim..its been reduced to using it merely as entertainment, breaking the masts off grappled ships. chain is good for the occasional stuck on the ship bug, or shot gunning the deck hands, but since theres no pvp, it sees limited use. fury is decent, and fast, but short range (cannonball range) and lags me a bit. lightning is definately fun to use maxxed, but in such a way it makes most other ammo types useless, it may not be fast but its the highest damaging cannonball, and does great on both sails and hulls, whereas other types just fly through the sails. im not sure about firebrand, id like to know its maxxed damage, and if its usefull on sails as well, never tried it much. i like rapid reload, and shoot maxxed, but shoot can be eliminated if youre a lightning user. sailing I dont like take cover at all, contrary to what people tell me, i still cant get it to work whatsoever. leadership just causes lag with my shipmates, but it does give you a few prescious seconds to fire another broadside or speed up an almost finished full sail or ramming speed in the case that youre gonna sink...so its not entirely worthless. treasure sense i dont like, i have it maxxed or nearly maxxed i cant remember, on one pirate, and not even unlocked on another pirate of the same level, and honestly, i make about the same money, and in the end, a high level will make more than enough money and run out of things to buy, so i dumped it on useful passives like windcatcher, i love that skill, ive proved it countless times on my own, outracing other sloops, and even a few light ones in a straight beeline. doll i dont like the doll at all, so i never use it other than to heal myself or others, so i maxxed heal and life drain, as well as cure, i never bothered with the passives much, so i really dont have much to say on them. staff not much of a staff user, desolation is worthless (the most damage ive ever gotten on it with the devils anvil monkey was 3k, but it usually hits around 2-2,500) it was useful with the now fixed staff glitch, for clearing flag ships and multiple enemies in their mid 20's to level 30, with one hit kills. but considering now, it takes at least 10 seconds to fully charge, has a very small radius, which means, you will have to be taking hits the whole time it charges if solo, doing the same damage as a bladestorm or 2 flame skulls, plus halfs your life..no thanks, ill stick with other staff skills like flame skull, i can get off two for more damage (3k) than casting desolation once, for less damage, and no health loss. banish i dont like, its great fro rep, but i accidently clicked on it twice, so it does about 1000 damage to a gypsy, still worthless as it doesnt justify the cost or time to not even take half of its life, unless i need a slow buildup and high voodoo drain skill to kill a brigand..yeah. with and flame skull are about the only 2 worth using at this point for me. casting speed, i wouldnt get it this time over (seemed to knock off maybe 2 seconds for 5 dots. the skills that regenerate voodoo faster and up the damage by 25% could be useful to the ones who use voodoo alot, as well as the one that lets you cut down on voodoo cast costs, makes the staf pretty customizable, high damage, slow casts, or weak but fast, or a mix..kinda like the doll, you can pretty much have it suit your needs and playing style. grenades i like stink pot and seige, both maxxed, stink has a decent radius without demolitions, good for clustered enemies, and maxxed, does just a little less damage than the standard explosive. now that we can carry alot more, im happy. seige maxxed is fun to use, one hit kills on 30 and unders, and 2-3 on the highest levels. just dont blow yourself up, they do alot more damage to you than they do to the enemy ( i once did over 3k damage on myself =) most of the passives other than the one that ups your HP regen, are pretty pointless at this point for me, may not be so if youre a pvper, but ive never been hit with a cannonball, and ive never been threatened by a grenadier to the point of wishing his pathetic perfect shot grenades did less damage. all in all, i have come to like grenades, using long volley, and avoid the standard throw completely, aiming down towards the ground a bit, so my nades fly like a baseball, they are utterly fun that way. pistol i dont use much admittedly, i kept my flintlock that barbossa gave me, so i have one shot to make it count, i upped the range, the damage of take aim, and the standard lead, as well as my accuracy since i couldnt stand to see those precious knives i bought miss so much. i also maxed hex eater simply because its decent when helping friends level, and to make up for the fact i have one shot. |
