not much of a team player

I have tried going on the final boss battle of taking back the pearl but I get killed fairly quickly. Is it possible to take back the pearl by yourself ? If it is, does anyone have any tips(besides the obvious of using a crew)?

I've tried it a few times solo.

I can get past the officers pretty easily by using the doll and running around like a maniac until they're dead.

My problem is what comes after. I've never made it to the last bridge, much less past it to the Goliath.

The ships and bridges will shoot you as long as they're alive. So your strategy should be to kill them as soon as you possibly can. But if you're solo, your DPS is limited, and they just take you down too much to make it. Adding more people increases your DPS and drops them that much faster.

I've thought about getting the "Explosive" cannon skill, but I'm loathe to burn a skill point just for this quest, and I'm not sure it would do any good.

I figure I can just keep trying until I figure out a strategy that works.

I doubt explosive will help you out any since you can only carry 3, reload is slow, and the range is limited.

Ive made it to the last bridge doin it solo. Unfortunately I couldnt try it again cause I helped someone in theirs and it gave me credit for it. That was my second attempt. If you go in packin full ammo, use take cover (when the bridges start shootin u) jump off the wheel and shoot, you can get pretty far. I wish they would allow us the option to do it again solo.....

Before having completed the Boss Battle with one other guildmate, I had gotten to this same point (the last bridge) on numerous solo attempts using pretty much the same method Angel mentions. I've gotten it half down before sinking..

The Goliath is not hard to sink once your through, however it's cannons do a fair bit of damage, you dont want to be in the red when you get there.

Kudos to anyone that actually gets through solo that would be some undertaking.l

Zeppers lvl 40 - All mastered but lvl 21 cannons
Groggy McJones lvl 26 - All weapons quest/tp quest finished - avoiding story quest

Aye, I have completed the Pearl Battle(including The Goliath), doing it completely solo. Took alot of patience and retries as well as making sure my cannon skills were up ( finished with lvl 17 cannons). If you can get through the first four ships and first 3 bridges while still being at least in the yellow, you've got a good chance. The second set of bridges, I entered from the the right side of the first set, carefully maneuvering The Pearl at an angle before getting to the the first set of bridges. At the second set of bridges, as long as you stay basically out of sight of the one on the right, you can take out the one on the left, then take out the on on your right at your leisure. A lot of it seemed to (for me at least) be a matter of the angle of The Pearl. In other words, positioning it so ye can do the most damage to the bridges, while they do the least damage to you. Each set of bridges after the first 3 will not fire upon you until you start to go through the previous set, and any shots you take will not affect on them.
As far as The Goliath goes, ran full sail as soon as I could to stay ahead of her, and would keep her just at the edge of the radar screen, while firing broadsides. When she got too close, would turn in front of her and full sail again. Pretty much keeping just out of range of fire, while firing my broadsides. Hope this helps

Just a thought to consider... Perhaps when the new ammo pouches become available (allowing you to carry more shots) going solo on the boss battle will become much easier. I have gotten to the last bridge as well, and wishing I had more thunder left...lol

I highly recommend doing the boss battle solo. The challenges in this game are few and far between. As the boss battle is extremely easy with a crew, I'd suggest doing yourself a favor and trying it alone. It took me a handful of attempts, but at least it provided an evening of fun.

The frigates are the hardest part. Since you're alone, you'll be a sitting duck after they surround you.

When you get to the bridges, try to position your ship so that you're far away from each cannon and such that only one cannon can fire at you at a time.

AdmiralSavvy 04-30-2008 03:47 AM

Well, it would be very hard to do it solo without getting too impatient. You might be able to get past the officers but the light frigates and bridges that cause damage would add up damage on your ship (even more because it takes more time solo.) By the time you get to the Golith, your ship might be damaged too much to fight with only broadsides.

I wish we could remain on the helm when the light frigates come up. I mean who needs to be on a cannon when you have those monster broadsides!?!?

Good luck with the solo attempt. LOL. Talk about planning far in advance. :)

Agreed. I wish they would allow you to do both: in crew and solo. That would be awesome!
