Explosive Ammo Type?

I am just wondering has anybody gotten the explosive ammo type (the second to last ammo skill), and is it a useful one to have?

The description says it is short range but how short is it?

I wonder if it is worth putting 1 or 2 skill points onto it, you know when a storm reaper gets really close to you and you wanna sink it fast.

Thanks~

It does a ton of damage, but only if the enemy ship is close enough. The range is about 1/2 compass, dialed all the way out. I personally don't like any ship getting that close to me, so I find it useless, except in an emergency, but then the load time takes so long for the single shot. I normally reserve an emergency cannon with explosive pre-loaded, so I can jump to it and fire off the round if I need it.

So, to recap...
Slow to load (About 10 seconds)
Low inventory (Only allowed 3 in inventory)
Short range (Not recommended for Juggy)
Tons of damage (If you last that long)

So personally, I wish I had never put a single dot on it.

Loot Hard!

unlock it! but dont put more than 1 skill point and btw aim the cannon very high @_@ if not it will drop like a lead ball into the sea

I love mine. As monk said...slow, short and packs a punch! I use mine a lot especially in the boss. Worth the 1 point IMO.

I love it. I nail large ships with regular round shot, maybe some lightning, to knock its hull/sails down. Once it gets close I drop an explosive shot on it, it's gone. Took a me a little while to realize its very short range, but if I let one get that close, its done for anyway with or without it.

I put one point in it, and I use it for blasting off the masts of ships after I grapple.

Otherwise, it's as useless as a lead doubloon.

Lol, what do u wanna blast off the mask of the ship after u grapple?

I do that too, its fun and soldiers come out after a certain amount of time, blasting the sails passes the time, so I can shoot the little feller.

One point seems like a reasonable investment.

might be awesome for if and when ship pvp comes back

"Might be" is the key phrase. Right now I want my point back that I put in it. Maxing out your lightning and lead ball is still the way to go right now.

DrStinglock 04-15-2008 06:01 AM

Id rather have not put a point in mine tbh, I'd rather have not put 2 points in it even :P

While it does pack a punch, the time spent loading, and the range, and the amount you can hold makes it not a worthwhile investment other than one point just for some more ammo.

Crazyguy36 04-15-2008 04:06 PM

I put 1 point in it yesterday and I almost regret doing it. When Im sailing, ships dont get close enough for me to use it. I've always been a distance killer and always will be.

!

So you can load a cannon with a specific ammo (say lighting), do not fire it, switch to a different cannon and use that for a while, come back to the cannon before, and fire the lighting bolt right away?

I did not know that, wow that is cool.
