Suggest skills/Leveling the happy balance?

Ok so I have read on the forum that some people ignore the main quest and just worry about leveling each of their weapons. They do this because notority goes up to quickly for the weapon base that they have apparently.

I gather that you can get to level 25 on each weapon. So that means there is 25 skill points to put towards each category. However, some categories don't open up till like level 14.

I guess my question is. Where is the happy balance. Do I have to worry about going through the story too quick that my notority goes up too quick that it hurts my weapon balance? I just need some real good info on this. I would like to know also what people have and what are good skills to have and what are a waste to have. I think for instance, in sailing I already have maybe potentially wasted a skill point on chain ball. Or on my gun, poision ammo. Suggestions would be very welcomed. I'm all ears to hear what experienced players think. :piratewheelgo2:

The short of it, Yes.

Now I'm just starting to test this theory with my newest pirate, so I'm here to learn this as much as you. She is so far a lev 12 with all her weapons at around 7, and still getting really good rep off almost anything over a lev 8 emeny. I'm only putting one skill point into each "damaging" skill, and saving all the other skill points til she gets good and up there. In contrast, my lev 32 pirate, who raced thru the Pearl Quest in no time, is having a hard time getting anything over 25 rep on just about anything...grr

The problem with the rep system in this game, is that using the higher skills you have in your weapons, the Less rep points you get. It makes NO sence.

So, by using your lesser skills, you get more points...ok...that also means as you're hacking away at an enemy using that little skill, (poke on voodoo doll for example) you're giving the enemy a greater chance at hurting you.

So, in order for you to be able to take out the enemys, still get good rep, and not DIE, you have to have some sort of balance between your health score (which goes up with the more nort. you have) and weapon level. The best way to keep your weapons and health in balance, IMO, is to ignore the Pearl quests to begin with. Wait to gain the nort. from those quests (which is a lot, and it happens really fast) til you're happy with your weapon lev. Like I said, I'm still testing this out, and I'm sure more experienced Pirates will have better advice :)

Thanks for your input. I kinda understand what you are saying. However, is it too late for my pirate at level 11? I guess I don't know...is the question. I already did some quests with the pearl and what not. Right now I'm trying to learn the dagger.

Ok, lets say I take your advice and start a new character. Wouldn't it then be just as hard to level up your voodo doll? Essentially you start the game with Cutlas and Pistol. So if I was to keep leveling up those at what point or noterity would I have to be. I mean there is so much to get good at. You have your sailing skills, you have cannon skills, cutlass, and pistol off that bat. Let's say I get up to level 10 in all of those. The do the quests...I would most likely be at level 20 shortly there after which would then make it harder for my vodoo doll or dagger to be any good.

Assuming that my health level went way up. Sure I would be pretty solid with the sword and pistol. However, couldn't a statement be argued that you want to get your voodo doll as quick as possible...and dagger to start leveling those pretty cool weapons/gadets quicker? I mean just using the vodoo doll lately is far more productive than the pistol from what I have experienced.

See this is what boggles my mind. Because I'm torn as to...start over and do the weapon leveling or just kinda keep everything sorta on balance now and not assign skill points until im sure.

If you have the dagger, then that's the only new weapon you're gonna get until lev 20 when the grenades unlock. So, you can concentrate on all four of your weapons, and sailing and cannons, until then. At lev 11 it's not too late :) Just stop putting skill points into the "damage" options on your weapons. One point in each, then leave it.

Your character will still be gaining nort. with just working your weapons, so you will still get the teleport quests. Those will come in super handy when you start working the pearl quests, as you need to hop from Island to Island to finish many of the pearl quests.

Someone told me to try to keep my weapons as even as possible, and I'm trying. If that means taking my only log on time to just work dagger or doll to get them to match cutlass and pistol, then so be it. I really want to see how this "no pearl quest" method pans out. Who knows, it may be the totally wrong way to go. The only thing I can say so far about it, is that I'm getting much more weapon rep on this pirate than any of my others.

We'll see :)

Anyone else have some words of wisdom???

Aye... We currently have 3 threads about this question running. If you review When to Quest and Skill Point Question, you will see all the information you need about balancing and how the quests may harm or help you.

I dont know about holdin off til lvl 23 on the weapons to start questing, but I do agree on workin on the weapons as early as possible. My second pirate waited until lvl 23ish to start questing. Got the staff byt the end of the pearl quest and got to work on that. Definitely work on the nades as soon as u get them!!
