Crash when i go the high sea...

Hi everybody,
I've a ATI asus 2600 256Mo.
I've a problem : all my settings options are at "high" except "level special effect" i think.
And when I put "high" on "level special effect" , its work, but its not work at the high sea,
I tried some solution...
How can i do ? The option "level special effect" is very is indispensable for me!
Thanks

Nitnek.

My friend is having this same problem too, so I guess your not the only one.
Hopefully someone knows how to fix this, because I was to sink ships with her eventually!

try lowerin ur settings to medium and see how that works.

nitnek 03-14-2008 11:15 AM

Okay, i'll try this soon !
Then i'll tell you if its work or not...

The issue you reported may be due to an incompatibility with OpenGL and your video card driver. Enabling POTCO to use DirectX 9 may resolve the problem.

To specify POTCO to use DirectX9 you will need to edit the "game_options.txt" file located in the POTCO root directory.

1)Navigate to C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline
3) Double click on game_option.txt
4) Make sure state has working on the line directly below it. If you see attempted_working change it to working
5) Under api, change the text from default to pandadx9
6) Save the file then launch the game

Good luck!

Try updaing your graphics card through your card maker's website.

Right. That's correct how you have it. If your system has DX10, setting the game's API to DX9 will work just fine, since DX10 still has support for DX9 API calls.

There may also be another text file in your root directory. I don't remember the exact name, but it's similar to last_good_configuration.txt. It is a copy of the game_options.txt file. Edit the last known good config file to set the api to pandadx9.

Also check for an updated driver from ATI, like Davy said.

High sea and cashing getting kick out

Hi, I had the same problem, I would lanuch my ship and a few seconds later I would be kick out of the game. Thanks to your post and sending in the bug report to POTC then problems is fix now. We have an window XP computer and it had to do with the game_option txt. I fixed that and I still got pushed out of the game. What the techincal staff didn't mention was I need to fix all the text file that used the default api stuff.

So I end up changing all my default to pandadx9, and it works now.
there were 4, I changed they were listed:
I add the game_option txt
changed last_working
P_working
also the break down of the error under lanuch_txt

thanks for your posting

I've been having this problem on my laptop as well. When I get off work and get a chance to get on, I'll see if this fixes my problem.

Thanks ahead everyone.

Sorry - I have the ATI 2600 PRO 512mb card - and it crashes on the seas. I tried everything - drivers, reformatting and fresh install - you name it - nada.

In the end after two weeks I had to switch to another card... sorry I don't have any good news :(

Solomon Shiprat 03-21-2008 01:19 AM

I have the same card and the same problem. Also, for whatever reason I have no game_options.txt file in my PiratesOnline directory. Can anyone help?

nitnek 03-26-2008 07:49 PM

I always have the same problem and I sent a email to the "bug report".
I hope they'll helps me.
Tell me if someone found a solution !!

Sorry for duplicating some portions of the previous post, I thought I would put the complete response from Disney, for those that may need step by step instructions. You can create a game_options.txt if you do not have one. When you change the resolution under options, it will also create one then (unless there is an OS permissions problem). Something that was sent to me by Disney was to enable DirectX in the game_options.txt by the following:

---snip---

The issue you reported may be due to an incompatibility with OpenGL and your video card driver. Enabling Pirates Online to use DirectX 9 should resolve the problem.

To specify Pirates Online to use DirectX 9 you will need to edit the "game_options.txt" file located in the PiratesOnline directory if you have ever saved settings in the Options Panel.

1) Go to Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer.
2) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline.
3) Double click on game_options.txt.
4) Make sure "state" has "working" on the line directly below it. If you see "attempted_working" change it to "working."
5) Under "api", please change the text from "default" to "pandadx9".
6) Save the file then launch the game.

If you don't have this file on your computer, you will need to create one in the PiratesOnline directory.

1) Go to Start | Run.
2) Type "Notepad" in the Open input box then click OK.
3) Add the following text precisely as you see it below:
state
working
api
pandadx9
4) Click File | Save As
5) Name the file "game_options.txt"
6) Save the file to C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline then launch the game.

These settings changes will instruct Pirates Online to only use DirectX 9 as the graphic API.

---snip---

Using DirectX over OpenGL actually created more problems for me, so I reverted back to "default". Hope this is able to help.
