Rep Question

When I defeat an enemy, it says something to effect of "+2 Rep (1 Lost)". My question is...what does it mean by "1 Lost"?

If you are a basic member, you do not get to keep all of the rep points. By this it takes longer to level anything, including notoriety.

You also are capped at max level 7 on weapons i believe, and around 13 Notoriety.

not sure if my facts are completely right..but that was roughly what I remember, having been a free member till i reached that limit.

I don't think there's an explicit notoriety cap, but once you get pistol, cutlass, cannon and sailing (which is all you're allowed in basic) to level 7, the opportunities for gaining notoriety otherwise are pretty slim, so it's effectively capped at somewhere around 12 or 13.

I started another pirate when I upgraded the account. I'd been putting skill points wherever I could, just because there was no other place I could put them. It took me until level 22 to realize that maybe I shouldn't have done that. The new guy is almost caught up, but I really wish I could siphon the gold from the old account...

which is a dumb move on potco side bc then it will take longer for basics to master which means it will take longer for them to become a paying member :D :laughks2:

which is also a smart move bc then more basics that cant pay bc of parents, money issues, and other reasons can play a bit longer

Ah ha!
I too was mystified by the 1 lost message.
I thought maybe I had battled poorly or something.
My basic plan is to go as far as I can on the free account and then upgrade it if I'm still interested in playing the game. So far it looks like I'll be playing for awhile :)
