Disappearing Portals

Portals are those torch-lit gateways between "dungeons." When you run through them, the borders top and bottom go black, you automatically put away your weapon, and you are in a different section of the island/program. Examples are the entrance to Wicked Thicket, Wicked Thicket to Royal Caverns, King's Run to Murky Hollow, etc.

Every once in a while, when my character arrives in front of one of these portals, all I see through it is a sea scape, or an extensive beach. If I go through at this point, I go for a swim or a long walk.

Even more disconcerting - but more easily circumvented - you come back from a long hot slug of swinging your sword or whatever, lots of loot, a quest completed, and the portal dumps you in the ocean. Either that or you stand before the portal thinking, "Is this the right way back?"

Is this a glitch, are they working on this section of the program, or is this a way to tell my character - for some reason - that she shouldn't go in there?

It is a glitch and it came with customization it should be fixed soon I hope.

(and I went into tormenta as a lvl 3 once so its not telling you that its a bad place for you)

Mia Lightning 01-12-2012 05:54 PM

There is another thread on this. Try switching servers, or get back on your boat, (at Tormenta for example) then get right back off.

Crimson Rose 01-12-2012 08:52 PM

Yes, thanks, I found the other post right after I posted this. It was sort of disguised.

Benjamin Cannonwallace 01-12-2012 10:28 PM

I got it too at Tormenta...

I was just into Fort Charles in Port Royal, looking for Sergeants. There were a lot of red dots on the compass with yellow rays around them, but when you went there there was nothing there. I had to go to where the big guys hang out and work the two sergeants at the edges.

That's the second time this has happened to me. Is this a common problem?

Same thing happened to me after I teleported out of the Cursed Caverns to sell weapons. I tried looking for a work around but none worked. Odd thig was when two friends TP to me to see for themselves, they reported that they could see the portal. It was fine and each walked through. Yet, I couldn't. So I TP to one of them and we continued our pirate ways.

Strange how that was.

Jake: You can not go anywhere on the islands
Anthony: You are welcome to send in a bug report from the website here:

I did the same today, contacting Live Support about this issue. As I shared with you all, I told them the same.

Don: Greetings Matey, welcome to Live Chat.
Billy: Ahoy!
Don: I read your description and I am very sorry for any inconvenience.
Billy: It;s okay,
Don: We are aware of these matters and the Dev's are looking into a resolve for it.
Don: In the mean time, please try moving to a different Ocean, that should resolve the matter in the mean time.
Billy: This happened two days ago
Billy: Doesn't happen often, but it was strange the way it did as I described it.
Don: No, its not something happens all the time, but it does occur.
Billy: So it's not unusual for three pirates to stand before a portal and only one of them can't see it due to a bug?
Don: Correct.
Billy: okay
Don: But its also not really common either.
Don: Is there anything else I can address for you Captn?
Billy: Not at all
Billy: I like to test when I play
Billy: Thought it might be insightful
Don: Awesome, glad you are liking it.
Don: Thank you for chatting with me Billy.
Don: Fair winds Matey.
Billy: Thank you

It's not unusual. Don told me what I needed to know. I'm sure they're working on fixing it. I figured sharing what had happened in my particular circumstance might pinpoint the source of the problem, and thus, get this bug fixed much faster.

It is true, in fact, that I do like to test while I'm playing. It's my favorite quest. :SkullBullet1:

I landed at Tortuga with a damaged ship with holds mostly full after sinking a few ships. Instead of the dock scene, I got the black Pirate screen. Nothing I did would work, until I used Task Mgr to kill the program.

Up came the bug report screen. I filled it out and clicked the Submit button ... and nothing happened! Even the bug report software has bugs!!!

I finally figured this one out. The dots that are showing on the compass are on all levels of the fort. I was on the first floor, and the compass was showing me red dots from soldiers on the second floor and up in the towers as well as the first floor.

Same thing happens in the fort on Padres del Fuego.

Very confusing.

Okay, how do you get the game images recorded as you did above?

My standard technique is to press PrintScrn key, then do Ctrl-V in Paint. I also have PhotoShop, although I don't use it much. However, all I get is a black image.

F9 is the key to take an in-game screenshot. Those are found in the Screenshot folder of PiratesOnline on your hard drive. Cant' miss it.
