The equal leveling method
 

Since I reached level 7 ive been using an equal leveling method.

Right now i am level 28
Cutlass, Pistol, Doll, Dagger, and Grenade are at level 18.

I stopped the main quest and i don't plan on picking it up again in anyway until i get my staff and re equalize my weapons.

I have noticed an immense difference in Hitpoints between myself and other people who are level 20+. Sometimes i even have double compared to them.

I have hardly spent any points and rely on just the skills that will get me the most rep points.

These are aproximate rep gains, i might be off by +/-10.

For Cutlass i use just a full combo. 1 point in each.
Killing a lvl 23 gets me 60rep.

For Pistol i just use the basic shot. 1 point
Kililng a lvl 23 gets me 50rep.

For Doll i just use Poke and Swarm. 1 point in each.
Killing a lvl 23 gets me 100rep.

For Dagger I use the 1st and 2nd attack for a combo. (pause a second after the second attack to start the combo over) 1 point in each.
Kililng a lvl 23 gets me 45rep.

For Gernades I use Explosive, Stink, and Fire. 1 point in each
Killing a lvll 23 gets me 30rep.

I have met plenty of other people who have spent alot of points to get the higher skills or upgraded these basic skills and they do not get the great gains that i do.


Doing this method has left these skills behind though.
If i had done alot of sailing and cannon work in my lower levels it would of been harder to raise my weapon skills since rep points came to easily.
My Cannon is at lvl 13 with 4 points in thunderbolt.

My Sailing is at lvl 11.

I think it is best to do the story quest sparingly, keep your weapon levels equal, don't spend all your points right away, and not do to much sailing early in the game.

The current pirate I'm raising, I too kept all my weapons at an even level and used skill points sparingly. I think it worked pretty well. I tried to take the story quests slow, but it's hard lol. Now I'm at the point of maxing my pirate and weaps and it was all pretty easy except for staff.

I'm starting a new pirate, and will not do any story quests until all weapons are at least level 20. Of course I'm doing the doll quests, tp quests, etc. We'll see how it goes. I call it my backwards pirate. Grind first, quest later ;)

I'm kinda doing that (9% Black Perl and not trying).
I am working up my Doll to lv 20 first and foremost so that while I'm grinding my other weaponss up I can heal myself by using drain life.

My Doll is now lv 18
The rest of my skills are like 6-7-8, lol. I think my sailing level is something like 3 since I rerolled.

Why not spend your points? Do you get more notoriety if you do less damage per attack?

hopefully when i get a test account - waits for potco to accept new testers -i will not do the bp quest until all skils are lvl 24 :D

I sort of did this with Voodoo Doll, I didn't do any story untill it was mastered.

I am now starting to even out my weapon's levels, I wont be doing the quest for a while =]

yea if i ever make a new pirate or get an account on test ill just forget the bp quest and work on weaps only!

I'm Level 34. Most of my weapons are between 20-22 ('cept Grenades and Staff). My sailing is at Level 17. I finished the story quest when I was around Level 24. I have not assigned all my skill points on all my weapons, but neither have I been "stingy" with them.

Yet, I get rep numbers just like what you've posted -- and have been all along. Granted, since I'm Level 34, I now need to kill enemies in the mid- to high 20s -- but I could probably still pull 100 rep from a Level 23 using my Doll if I tried.

Leveling your Doll to 20 as fast as possible is really good advice for making the leveling your other weapons easier.

I'm not Notoriety lvl 18 and my doll skill is at 20 (when drain life unlocks).
(Leveled my doll from 8-20 in 6 hours of really trying!)
I started saving skill points when my doll hit level 15 so that I could max drain life.

I'm leveling my cutlass and dagger next and it's sooooooooo easy with drain life. You never have to stop and go get pots or wait for your life to regen.

Aye if your semi stingy as long as you leave the necessary skills low you will get the gains you need.

The doll seems to be the easiest.

Though from what ive read if i had put more points into poke and swarm i would not be getting the 100 rep.

I level my weapons in this order

Dagger
Pistol
Grenade
Cutlass
Doll

Generally i gain a level in notoriety during the cutlass stage.

I am now level 29 with 19 levels in all my weapon skills.

Here's hoping for a speedy 20 in weapons. ^^

Right now i am level 37, (almost 38)

Cutlass, Pistol, Dagger Staff are all lvl 21. Doll mastered, and Grenades are at level 20.

Heres what I've found for the best reps for everything (Also dont forget to crew up for 10% more reps, yes works for land too):

For Cutlass, button mashing is the best (Less skill points the best). Best to save skill points instead of powering up weapons for best reps. The higher the attack, the faster the kill, the less the reps.


For Pistol i just use the basic shot. 1 point
Do not use take aim, standard shot and just shoot. Take aim makes a more powerful shot and kills faster = less reps.

For Doll i just use Poke and Swarm. You can also just heal others that battle and that gives you great reps. Alternate with your friends, they attack one u get the other, and heal eachother.

For Dagger I've found max reps come from throwing daggers. On stumps I use 1-4 mostly and get 110 reps in crew. That or button mashing.
Kililng a lvl 30 Stump gets me 110 rep.

For Gernades Smoke is the best for reps. Back beach of padres, Gypsies and grenaiders. Killing a lvll 25 gets me 70 to 80 rep. If you dont have smoke, start off at Kingshead and use #1 shot with one dot in the center croud. take a healer to start off until you get the hang of it. 6 vets can net you from 10-20 reps each.

Staff, start out on the giant crabs on Diftwood. Get the #2 shot, and then go crazy on that. Only use 1 dot per skill. SAVE THEM FOR THE PASSIVES ON BOTTOM. I cannot stress that enough. This helps on doll as well. The #5 IMO is a waste, I've never used it but once. Unfortunately my mistake and I lost 2 points on it by accidently double clickin on it. The #2 wil give u the best reps out of all, flame and Wither.

P.S. if your a low lvl, go to the Giant crabs on Driftwood and stand in teh water for attack. Start off on one weapon, switch mid way to another. I did this when I was smaLler and went through 3 weapons for a total of 283 reps (max 110 crewed per weapon used).
