Is your pirate REALLY a pirate?

I've only been playing the game for a little over a week, so I'm still not sure about the social aspect of the game. I'm wondering how you guys act when you're playing.

For me personally, my pirate is a character. I really like the story aspect of games like this, so she talks like a pirate, stays in character, and has her own distinct personality. Is this what the rest of you do, or do you talk as you would? I'm just curious.

I talk and act like me :) I'm just me and always will be.

It doesn't hurt to act as someone else once in a while.

I'll do the pirate-talking occasionally, but I usually feel like I'm not very good at it. Some people are definitely better at role-playing than others. If you're good at it, more power to you!

Maybe PotCO needs to do what World Of Warcraft does -- designate certain servers as "role-playing servers". In other words, everyone playing on that particular server is expected to talk "in character".

I wish they would do that; I'd definitely have fun with it.

In every MMO game I've played to date including:

Dark Age of Camelot
World of Warcraft
Asheron's Call
Asheron's Call 2
Shadowbane
Navy Field,

I've never role played. My personality reflects me through in game characters. While I do not mind those people whom do role play, me personally, I find it easier to make friends in a game community that act as they really are. I dont make friends with Pirates, shamans, paladins, clerics or warriors..etc. I make friends with people that are behind those pixels. With that said, I generally bypass those who role-play because thats not who they are which means I learn nothing about them.

The few times I have 'talked like a pirate' in the chat window I get "???" or some chat/texting shorthand. I type fast enough to use complete words and sentences in the game.

So do I, and I really hate excessive chat/texting shorthand. I'm cool with the occasional "lol" or "brb," because they're fast and efficient and not invasive, but the constant use of "u," no capital letters, etc. quickly drives me insane.

It's just that, for me, the more I am immersed in the game and feel like I'm in a different world, the more fun it is. If people are constantly talking about "lvling up" or whatever, the story aspect of the game disappears for me, and I feel like it reduces the game to just how many experience points can you get for your character, which i find boring. I hope that makes sense.

I don't really talk.
