The weird box is the shot bbcode. it'll take a screenshot and reduce it down to our frontpage size of no larger than 500 pixels across, but you can click the image to pull up a full sized view of it.

Nate Swordwalker 11-24-2011 07:29 PM

I don't see them? I only see the Add to Reputation and Report button.

The Skirata Clan 11-24-2011 08:15 PM

Nate, the options show only when you are going to post using the "Go Advanced" option instead of the "Post Quick Reply" option.

These aren't new bbcodes, just adding buttons to make it faster for people to use them.

shot bbcode, requires an URL to an image. Say you take a screenshot of something ingame but don't have the software to crop or shrink it down to a good size for post. Instead, you can host it some place and add it to a post with the shot bbcode. This will automatically shrink the image to be no bigger than 500 pixels across and if you click on the image, you can bring up a full sized version of the image. Much as we do in front page news threads.

Youtube bbcode is for embedding videos into a post. Say you wanna share the newest video posted by piratesonline on youtube. You click the share button and get the code of http://youtu.be/ZUKJUfkTTuk. Well, people have to go to youtube to view that video. Instead you can just put [youtube]ZUKJUfkTTuk[/youtube] and it'll display like:

on your post.

You guys made it too easy now...

I was having fun "reading" the bbcode list.

Still, great idea having it implemented to the default message editor for faster access.

Do you think you could add a horizontal line function to the editor as well? html is blocked D:, and at times, I found the need to use the hr rule.

I'm sorry we made things far too easy for you:laughks2:

No, we don't allow html because it would be too easy for someone to add something harmful to a post. I know it can be a pain to try to get a post to look a certain way some times, but we have to consider security for everyone first.

No, we never gave much thought into adding a horizontal break line since it could be easily replicated using a couple of different keys on a keyboard:

-------------------------------------

Ah, dashes and underscores.

Right!

But Batleth, another thing about using those is in the default editor for posts, if you fill an entire line in the "edit post" box, it shows up as incomplete when someone hits "Preview Post", and doesn't fill the whole line you wanted the dashes and underscores to be in.

Ex. I will put a dash line:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under this line is where the dash key input ended because the text box automatically shifted to this line. However, at the time of the post, this line isn't long enough to fill the line inside of the thread that displays this post.

It's confusing to explain but hopefully you'll get it.

And yes, I understand you guys thought of security when disabling html. There are so many tags someone could use and take control of a thread...

I believe javascript would work too, if html wasn't blocked... too much control then.

Sweet, a line that fills the whole post, even when resolution size isn't definite.

Thanks, Batleth.

Now test:

Yay, it works! And covers the whole line, too!
