PvP: Basics
PvP: I came, I saw, I was confused.
Ok, after a long anticipation at the sheer potential of this game, I sat down for some serious PvP a short while ago. My first comment is this, there is a good wait in store for anyone seeking to play against real players. However, this is only because so few are trying! For all those looking for a PvP rich game allow me to warn you now: We are the first generation of this game, and the shape of the environment is ours to change! TRY to get into PvP matches, talk about it in your guild, and tell your friends! The only way to shorten the wait times is to get more people trying to play. That being said let's look at the different matches. There is Mayhem! which is supposed to be an all out brawl every pirate for themselves. In reality the only form I've seen from this match is a solid 1 on 1 with a 5 minute (I believe) timer, in which you must rack up more kills than your opponent. While this is not what the description implies it is still your bread and butter PvP for now. So get out and take down that opponent. Because of the aiming and nature of attacks and kiting melee the voodoo doll is most pirates weapon of choice. In fact, most seem to have forgotten all their other weapons! Take advantage of this, blast em' with hex eater and watch them flounder. Remember, play to your strengths. If you have a heavy hitting voodoo doll but a poorly leveled cutlass keep your range, try to avoid their counters. And vice versa, if you only excel in close combat kill their voodoo with hex eater, or lock them in place with grave shackles. As for Team Battle, this is a serious misnomer. I saw no way to determine who teammates are at all, even at the end when points are tallied. I think that the team mechanic is currently broken, this battle is more of a free for all. A ton of pirates, all killing each other. No real strategy for this, since the winner is determined by number of kills, not the strength of the foes defeated. So as underhanded as it may sound, hunt down the low levels, and destroy as many as you can. Unfortunately there is no other way to really win, because if you aren't racking up newbie kills, you can be sure someone else is. And since you can't command the attention of all those high levels you can bet they'll kill newbies faster than you can kill them. They'll ultimately win. Still I consider this match to be broken, simply in it's setup. If you are looking for a challenge, and a chance to test your skill do it in the 1 vs. 1's. Overall this PvP scene is still growing. It will require a lot of attention from both players AND developers. One major problem is there is no level division now. So very high levels can be pit against very low levels. In some cases, there is truly no chance whatsoever for the lower level to win. Period. But I encourage everyone in the community to keep playing PvP! This game has a ton of potential, and it'll take the community growing and getting more skillful to get these developers into motion. That's all for now guys. Take what you can..... ~Capt. Morgan |

I've tried that game several times, but each time, I'm against very low levels. It's not fun or fair to them. I was trying to get into a game with friends, but somehow ended up with other people.
What I would like to see, is to be able to select teams and play. Playing with guild mateys would be a blast. I could see this being a very fun game in the future. |
i agree rose is was kinda boring lol

First off, we really need to get more ppl involved in pvp, the matchmaking is a joke. So few ppl are Pvping that the game is forced to put a high lvl player vrs a low level player just to get them in a game! The challenge feature doesnt seem to work right either, most the time when I challenge another player to a skirmish we end up on the same team.
Playing with guildmates would indeed be a blast, can you imagine guild battles! I do have one piece of advice, Specialize in one or two weapon types and avoid questing(I wont give my reasons, gotta figure that out yerself) |
Heres a tip....if you want to PVP a single person, then make sure you both are out of crew and then squirmish them.

It might just be because I got my gigantic posterior handed to me several times last night, but it seems that I might not have built such a great pirate for PvP.
My first foray into PvP ended with persistent, repeated, and all to frequent demise. I have mastered doll, but that didn't help. Was completely anihilated by higher, lower, and equal level characters who apparently had followed better builds (i.e. hex shot with pistol, stun on cutlass, taunt) which are a huge advantage for PvP - but, not much when playing in open. Something to think about if I ever contimplate another character. And, I don't think I have EVER seen so many level 40 players anywhere before. One mayhem session had 4......... Played 2 in one on one mayhem. Needless to say, my first experience was not exactly "positive" (which may be the reason you don't see too many lower levels in the games). Nathaniel Warfury Level 37 |
