Pirates 'gifted' in a certain weapon?

For several months now, I've been watching my character and a couple of my friends', and I've gradually built up this theory, and now I'm pretty sure that it could be valid. I think that perhaps some pirates are 'naturally' better at some weapons than others.

Misty was a level 40 who hadn't yet mastered her gun (level 23ish), but had a mastered sword for a long time now. I mostly used my sword at Darkhart (which proved to be a mistake - but that isn't the point), and had him down in several hits. When I switched to gun to kill him, however, it was far stronger than the sword.

You're probably thinking 'Crazy DP - gun is known to be stronger than sword, duh!', but that's not my only evidence of my theory. I was leveling with one of my friends at Tormenta, and she switched from sword to doll. Sword was mastered, and doll was quite low. But she was clearly doing much more damage with the doll than she was with the sword. The thing is, I do more damage with sword than doll, even with a mastered doll.

My next bit of evidence is with my guildie, Thunder. I was at Kingshead with him on a littler pirate, and he had already mastered sword. He was using grenades and they were extremely powerful, despite being about level 15 on them. Grenades are known to be more powerful than most weapons, but this was strange seeing as I was a higher level than him on grenades, and I couldn't do that much damage.

This may be just good skill assignments, but I generally build up all the damaging skills first, yet some of my friends (whom I suspect are doing it a little differently) can do far more damage than I can, even with my mastered weapons.

Have any of you noticed that your pirate is better with a certain weapon than anything else?

I can agree with your view on this. Some Pirates enjoy using a specific type of weapon over another (myself included). Others may choose the weapon based on the enemy. Obviously some will be better skilled than others with certain weapon types (used properly with no glitching).

I tend to use blades more than anything. Just my preference.

I now noticed this, too. My Pirate does major damage with the Grenades, and it was one of the last to be mastered.

Well all the examples you cited involved sword, which I believe to be one of if not the worst weapon in the game, so that doesn't sway me much. But the differing amounts of damage can probably be explained by skill sets. The voodoo user's attacks had more skill points invested in them than the sword combos, most likely. With voodoo attacks, people doing more damage than you probably have poured 5 skill points into Spirit Mastery, Blade Instinct etc.

I was involving sword because it was the only mastered weapon that I and the others had at the time. I could probably compare all the other weapons with the 'stronger' one and it would still come out on top - I didn't mention that I did compare all other weapons with my pirate's gun, and the gun was stronger. This may be just skill-based.

This is true, but as I mentioned near the end of my post, I tend to put all my damage-based skills on first, while I expect at least one of the players I mentioned does it differently. I think if I searched around a bit, I could find some more examples of my theory.

You give a valid point, though. Perhaps it is all skill point based.

Well, I do have a passion for broadswords. I am relatively slow at pirate leveling. I also find it hard to level fishing. I have been in the game since maybe 2009 or 2010, and a lv 43. I have mastered Sword, dagger, gun, and cannon i think. I mostly used sword and gun til level maybe 30, but then changed. I never used dagger, but now use it often. One time i taught someone to do Grenade and that fort on Padres. next time i was on, i had grenade lv 6 and she 25. I never liked grenade, but love sword. I learned that from Phishy, an inactive member of my guild. I also love cannoning, and when i had a light sloop i could take a frigate. idk if that is normal, but i just loved it.

I also love broadswords, I got over cutlass since... i don't remember. I will only use cutlass with my low level noobish test pirate and i will ONLY use a cutlass when it is a legendary or cursed. I mihgt not even use them, i shall only use the Lost Sword of El Patron. I am natural at fishing, i mastered it very quickly and make tons of tons of gold (10,000 per hour). The only problem i had in fishing was the price of the master rod, i purchased it eventually. I suck at using gun and dagger, partly because i use a laptop. Yet, i am very good with VooDoo staff. I can use grenades moderately. I also cannon moderately, But i am waaayy better at sailing. I am level 32, yet i have Sword lvl.29 and Doll lvl.22.
