Special Savvy Swashbuckler - September 29, 2011

We’d like to pay special tribute to a truly Savvy Swashbuckler this week, Bill Ironskull.
Hundreds of Pirates have written in to let us know the sad news of his passing, and to share their fondness and deep appreciation for a one-of-a-kind Pirate friend.

A Founder and exemplary Guild Master, Bill impressed anyone he met with his generous style and eye for adventure. His Guild mates, friends, and many other Pirates honor him best, and here are just a few of the countless kind words we’ve received:

“He was a great Pirate, a great SvSer, and everyone respected him.”

“Bill was not only one of the finest, kindest and most helpful people one could ever meet in the game, but he was an icon in the SvS community.”

“I hardly knew Bill, but when SvS first started, Bill was willing to put up with my horrid sailing skills and gun for me, and he had no reason to do that other than that is just how he was - always helping people, always willing to offer guidance if someone asked and always a player of very high integrity.”

“In the four years I have been playing Pirates Online, I have never seen such respect paid to a person.”

“Bill was a true friend, a true Pirate, and a true SvSer.”

Any Pirate swashbuckling alongside Bill came out the better for it - whether it be in plunder, excitement, or as the best example of an adventurer. We’re very happy to know his Guild the Caribbean Eagles is determined to continue in his legacy of fun and friendship in the Caribbean.
He leaves a lasting mark we all celebrate and are thankful for.

Fair winds, Bill. Ye’ll be missed.

This shows the true class that Disney has. This is why I have 4 unlimited accounts for my family, and will continue to pay for them. Thank ye POTCO Team and Disney!

Fair Winds, Following Seas Bill! A quite cove on Fiddlers Green awaits ye!

Shocked :(

Oh my goodness, I cant even think right now :(

Bill was a great pirate ; one of the best ever to bless the carribean waters.
He was a good friend of mine and im very sad to hear this. The pirate community will never be the same, as well as the SvS community. May he rest in peace, and may his fury on the SvS waters be stronger than ever :(

That's pretty cool of Disney to do that

Tiberius Fireskull 09-30-2011 02:15 AM

More than cool. I am really astonished that they would do this. This is probably one of the best things they have ever done, to honor a player so important to everyone. Bill now will not just be remembered by the people that knew him, and the people of the game on forums where his presence was known, but now to all the people who play this game.

Thank you Disney. You did a great thing.

This is one of the reasons Disney will continue to be what they are. I am glad they did this.

As many others may agree with me, this is beyond any update Disney could do. I've gained even more respect for them now. I never knew Bill, but I'm positive he was a great pirate and a great friend to many.

HammyTheSquirrel 09-30-2011 02:37 AM

Wow... it's really great and amazing that Disney did that. I think Tibby just said all I have to say...

Jamesvsthekraken 09-30-2011 03:49 AM

Thank you Disney for doing something better than any update to pirates online. I appreciate that you guys saluted him. (I know I said exactly what pieisbetter2 said but anyways) My prayers go out to all of Bill's family. Bill was a very savvy pirate indeed as well as an excellent pirate. :( Rest in Peace, friend.

I Speak as a friend of Bill when I say Thank you to all pirates and friends who have showed their support in such sad times. Bill was a great pirate and he would of appreciated all the pirate friendly actions taken recently in his respect.

Also, Thank you to the POTCO staff for honoring Bill and showing a great deal of respect. All your actions towards this are very much appreciated as well.

Once again, Thank You and May Bill Rest In Peace!

Although I have never agreed with the title of Savvy Swashbuckler, this is the exception. A truly outstanding show of support for a truly outstanding pirate.

Thank you Disney, but most of all, thank you Bill; for leaving a positive mark on the game, and for giving pirates like me a reason to keep playing this game. God bless.

Captain Sharktooth 09-30-2011 06:07 AM

Thank you Disney for doing this for him. He definitely earned this award, and he'll be missed. Also, Disney did another act of kindness by transferring the Gm status from Bill to one of his officers, so the Caribbean Eagles could live on. Great job, Disney!

I was not surprised when Disney posted something about him, I mean with all the messages in Twitter, POF, and pirates contacting them and even making a tribute for him in the game I knew they would do something to tribute him.

I never knew him and I never met him but with all these nice words they say about him, I'm sure he's a wonderful Pirate and if I had met him once I would've wanted to meet him again :)

Dark_Pixie 09-30-2011 11:34 AM

Wow. This is amazing. I'm so happy that Disney has done something like this. :)

WeirdBeard 09-30-2011 02:14 PM

I am glad Dinsey did this.
