Trouble locating 'Hired Guns'
 

I have a quest that requires me to dispatch with 11 'hired guns'. I read that they could be found on PDF in the tunnel to the right (by the fort), but all I've seen in there are mercs and grunts. Before I (being lvl 20) try to tke on a 29 merc, are they the same thing?

I couldn't view your link, but, a hired gun will sometimes spawn in Fort Charles. There's also a hired gun in Becketts Quarry. He's usually in that doorway in the middle. I've also seen them on Kings.

In my experience, Hired Guns usually trade off spawning with Mercenaries.

I did a quest tonight that required me to defeat 7 Mercenaries. I got the first one on the rear patio of Fort Charles, but the next half dozen spawns were all Hired Guns, so I moved to the location you mention: Becketts Quarry on PDF. This is the second time I've done a quest for Mercenaries (yeah, I'm nuts) and knew that the first EITC officer in the archway at the bottom spawns as either a Mercenary, Hired Gun, or Grunt. Sure enough, I was able to complete my quest there in short order.

If you go to one of those two locations and see a Merc, I suggest you try that same location on a different server.

Hired Guns are lower level (low to mid-20s) than Mercenaries (high 20s to low 30s). Like Undead Brigands, they wield daggers whereas Mercs are masters of the cutlass.

I don't recommend trying to take on a Merc at LVL 20. My pirate is LVL 30 and had a tough time with several of them. :degen:

They are incredibly aggressive & powerful, capable of inflicting major damage with lots of fancy combos. Additionally, they can taunt you into losing some of your own effectiveness (turning you red in the process) and can also stun you briefly into total paralysis, so that you are incapable of attacking them back for several seconds.
