I don't understand the reputation...

How come some people have 1 bottle for the reputation, and others have 5? And some it says ' ________ is a scurvy dog ' and others it says ' ____________ is a first mate. '

I'm confused.:piratetongueor4:

Pirate Rose 01-31-2008 09:48 PM

It's based on the number of good/bad reputation people leave :)

It's the rep system for POF! If you like a post somebody did, finding it helpful for instance, you can click the button next to the exclamation point button on the top right part of a thread. The more good rep you have, the more bottles you have.

If I may hijack, slightly...

On a related question, how does one receive "balanced"? When I go to the User CP, I see the recent rep given and have blue balanced bottles. For rep to be balanced, does one not need to receive good and bad rep? I seem only able to leave good rep. Thanks in advance for your reply and sorry for the partial hijack. I'll start a new thread, if need be.

I have the same question Eustace, I received bad reputation from someone for posting how to do a glitch in the specifically designed GLITCH forum. I'd very much like to return the favor (its only fair, after all, hes actually more deserving than I), as the forum moderator himself said, dont tell people to stop posting glitchs, this is the glitch forum. Anyhow, i'd like to understand how negative/bad rep is applied, ive seen nothing other than "Approve" when I click on the button.

Ya... I think I wanted to bad rep you, in fact. :piratetongueor4: Nothing personal, of course. I have since been chastized for it and keep out of all glitch postings of any kind. If I know how, if I don't know how, whatever. I just don't go to those threads anymore.

Find this button at the top of the post you want to add rep to:
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...reputation.gif

Click it and you get this:
http://i29.tinypic.com/2jfdnoz.png

Choose an option (approve = good rep and disapprove = bad rep) and leave comments if you wish.

Dr. Zeppers 04-14-2008 11:15 PM

Apparently this is reserved for only certain site members.

I only get the "I approve" option.

Thank you,

Looks like founders were able to still give negative rep. This is now shut off so only mods can give negative, as it's suppose to be. We've found on our other forums, people get far too carried away with negative rep. This tends to lead to flaming, trolling, and favoritism which we don't allow here. Rep is suppose to be something for fun to show your appriciation for someone's posts, NOT to start flame wars with.

Ah that makes sense :dancetl6:

Good to know. That should eliminate a lot of hassle (though I had tried to start some of it). Now if there is someone who could explain "balanced" to me.

Somehow I got balanced rep on my balanced rep question. Go figure. Still no clue how you receive balanced rep though.

User didn't have enough rep (good or bad) to alter your rep. This happens often to new users that haven't obtained much rep yet.
