Internet Connection Unexpectedly Broken (everytime)

When I run Pirates Online I ALWAYS get the message: Your internet connection to the servers has been unexpectedly broken. Thing is, I had this message on the screen the entire time the client was downloading all the game files. I watched the progress as they downloaded. It's curious, if the connection is broken how am I getting the game files downloaded? I suspect this is a bug.

I got to the Pirate creation screen and was creating my pirate when this message popped up again. It got in the way of creating a pirate and when I clicked 'OK' it dumped me out of the game.

I am on a MacBook 2.2ghz with 2gb RAM and OSX Leopard 10.5.1 and a broadband connection.

macs have issues with potco lol potco knows its an issue and they are working on it

I dont see any known issues for Macs that sound like your problem. Not to say that isnt it, but you could continue to rule out other issues as well.

Do you have a router? If so, have you tried playing the game directly connected to your broadband connection? If that works, you may have to configure port triggering or forwarding. I had similar issues with ToonTown.

Good luck!

This is happening to my friend and I. I think it's a POTC server issue.

There's an idea, could be my software firewall too. Anyone know what ports need to be open? Is there a FAQ about ports?

I notice that the requirements for the game are a prior version of MacOS maybe they just don't support OSX 10.5.1 yet. Avast!

I have a router and had the same issue with toontown. The port triggering numbers that tt uses are 6112 and 6667. I haven't had this issue since I entered the port numbers - with tt or potco. Hope that helps :)

Still no luck. I have my firewall completely open for PoTC and I still have the same issue. I guess I'll give up on it until they release a version for OSX Leopard. Yarrr.:zn3lhg:

From the game support FAQ's:

Can I play Pirates through a network proxy or firewall? Menu http://a.disney.go.com/pirates/onlin...images/dot.gif
Yes, but you will have to configure the proxy or firewall to allow traffic on port 80, 443, and 667. You will also need to add PiratesOnline.com to either the safe or exception list.

Please refer to your proxy and firewall applications for detailed instructions to include PiratesOnline.com as a safe program.
I also noticed that the game seems to open a connection on port 7667

Yup I saw that FAQ. the ports on the router are all open or forwarded. The firewall is wide open for PoTC and still no luck. I don't think it's my ISP because so far I've been able to play other online games and use various online services. The requirements list OSX Tiger so maybe it's just the difference between OSX Tiger and OSX Leopard. I'll still be waiting for an update before I can play.

EDIT: yea potco has had a history of connection problems but nothing major

aww :( why does disney not think of everyone when doing this
I'm sure they are thinking of as many platforms and systems as they can. It's just the usual development cycle for games. Windows is always first then MacOS. Leopard just came out in October so I'm sure they have to play catch up to get PoTC working properly with Leopard. Besides, Steve Jobs is on Disney's board that has to have some effect on development for the Mac. :pirate6:

I have had this same problem since i downloaded this game about a week ago. Its not my computer, considering this game is ment to be played on trash walmart computers. Ive tried the port triggering and fowarding, and I still cant log onto any character thats not in the starting area. If anyone has found another fix for this Issue please post it! Ty

mrcharisma316 01-28-2008 01:43 AM

Rum,

Not sure if this will help you, but I was getting the same error, every time I tried to load up certain lvl's in the game. After talking to tech support, found out that my problem had to do with the firmware of my dsl-router. I went to the linksys sight downloaded the most current .bin file for my model of router. Updated the router. And after that no more problems. Best of Luck m8.
