How to easily complete the grenade quest

When I first got the grenade quest, I was nervous because I'd read all the posts on how long it takes and that you keep dying, but I think I figured out a better way to do it. Really, the difficult part is collecting all the items from fort storage containers, and that's what I did more easily.

To sail to Kingshead and Padres (if you can't teleport yet), use a light sloop (if you sold yours long ago like I did, buy another for these trips). Try to level up your full sail skill and you can easily outmaneuver the big ships and arrive safely.

Next, for all the Kingshead raids, don't even try to defeat the guards in the courtyard. You will only be able to get 1-3 storage searches before dying or having to run away, and this takes way too long. Instead, make sure you have full health and then once you go through the gate, run along the dirt path through the courtyard, up the hill (past the little town place), and up the stone fort stairs.

This top level of this is in a circular shape like the top level of Fort Dundee in Padres, only more complex and with a bridge to another portion in a different stone pattern. There will be veterans and officers up here, but don't fight them unless they attack, and if more than one heads your way, run around the circle until they forget about you.

Keep going around the circle until you have searched all the storage containers. You should get between 5-10 items from these containers. The more I ran around, the less guards there were and it got easier.

Next, go across that bridge in the different stone and take on the two containers in the square shape. Then, take on the single guard in the turret thing and that container at the base of the slope. Head up the slope and take out the officer, then his container. Keep going up and you will get to another fort location that's a mix of layouts. There will be high level guards, thugs, and mercenaries here, but you should be able to get another three items.

If your health runs lows, max out tonic use, then run away. I got all my items in about one and half circuits of this path without ever dying, and I did the same thing for the next set of items. I just repeated this strategy in Fort Dundee as well, and I never died once.

I hope this helps some of you :-) (Jane Truefoote in game)

k do what he said ^ but if u want to once u get the easy to reach crates and barrels log off then back on it will reset all dig spots barrels and crates keep doing this till u have compleated the quest

mrcharisma316 01-22-2008 09:47 PM

or u can just have a couple other people to heal and distract with you its pretty easy

I've done kings with guild mateys and by myself.

Although it was a fun challenge to see if I could do it totally by myself, I think part of the fun of the grenades quest is doing it with others. There's never a shortage of people wanting to help, most of the time there's too much help and we lag tons. So I don't think I'm alone in thinking doing the grenades quest with others is fun :)

ps - don't need to relog, just need to change oceans :)

Chris 01-22-2008 10:44 PM

whatever rose LOL

and yes i remember helping edward was it with his grenade quest lol that was fun

'crate' section

I also noticed that you can go to the Kingshead dock and get a crate searched outside the gate. Then, you can go to the next server down the list and you are placed back on PDF, so you have to sail to Kingshead and check the same crate, then lather, rinse, repeat. It takes awhile, but if you are all alone at 2am, it cuts the quest in half. All that's left are the 10 barrels inside the gate.

Doesn't that mean you would have to sail all the way to Padres and Kingshead again?

I already got my grenades, and it helps if you have a guild/crew with ye.

It goes a lot quicker when the other ppl distract the Navy, while you look in their barrels.

But this is a great guide if yer by yourself!

this is a great quest , easily my favorite one in the game , maybe it's the difficulty at level 20 you're so quickly killed if you try and fend off the entire navy, or the comradely of others as you watch the peril and death of guild mates and allies ... i have done it many times with friends guildies and there friends , switching oceans .. may make it easier but your only taking away from your own enjoyment. Remember its a game we are supposed to die, be sent to jail, there's even a leader board for that (which proudly i can be found).

so if you want help i am willing to die for the cause... but have fun there are tons of barrels' and crates to be found in all three fort structures with in Kingshead as well as the village area in the center .. the training field had a few but its much harder to distract all the guards there. it seems to me the higher up you travel the easier it is to do .. so don't be afraid to explore the far reaches .. and die a time or two .. just teleport back to a guild or crew mate. if you need a sanctuary there's a room just past the training field , with no guards inside go past the officers two vets and a thugs and dive in the door .. plenty of space to regroup and heal up...in fact it also make a good place to plan a stratagey or go over raiding plans .. my guild often comes here just to pilage and plunder that room is great for figuring out who is going to be the healer and who is going to take damage, other genral crew setups.........

good luck, dont cheat yourself cheat death, and make your friends avenge you when you cant!

Later, guards to disembowel!!!

I'm currently doing the grenade quest, I'm down to just needing the items from the fort on the volcano island. I was using my work laptop and the screen is so dark (crappy equipment) I'll have to wait until when I get home to play.

Kingshead I did about 75% alone; one trip there about 5 others were fighting guards and probably just leveling up. They kept the guards distracted and I got to search all the boxes/barrels plus get a sword level in too.

ancrom 02-25-2008 03:24 AM

the kingshead part was straightforward enough
the elusive sack of coal is driving me bananas
I have sunk 14 eitc frigates over 2 days
logged in logged out logged upside down
switched oceans switched hands
the computer wont let me have it.
and yes all the ships have been lvl7+
danged if ya do
danged if you dont

SaMuEl Dreadbones 02-25-2008 06:04 AM

when your lvl 20 or or 21 att he time you start grenade quest it is doable by urself, if you have enough potions and you are carfull about how u do it, i did the whole thing myself ,the orig post mentioned a good portion of it, but if you have your vodoo doll u can manage, juss kill the one guard thats usualy by the barrel/crate you need and it usualy gives u enough time to search item b 4 navy comes bak,if you are carfull about how you walk around its defintly doable, i felt like i was playing metal gear lol sneaking aorund those forts all silnt and such :P

Same here. Like everyone has pointed out, alone or even with friends, it is difficult to finish. I roared with pleasure when i finally threw me first boom! (Unfortunately it fell to my feet and I did more damage to me than anything else.)
It seemed like there were a couple of crates that were next to impossible to get. The second search spot (can't remember if it was barrel or crate) just inside the gate to the left had a couple of soldiers that spawned when you hit the search and came directly to you. Even with help, I could never finish the search on that particular crate.
