Launch Your Way Into Pirates Online
July 22, 2011

Up to now there were two ways to play Pirates of the Caribbean Online – either through a web browser window or by actually launching the game from your very own desktop.

Overwhelmingly, you Pirates have let us know your strong preference for playing through the launcher,
so very soon Pirates Online will be moving back to playing through the desktop launcher only.

If you currently play through the browser version, get a head start by downloading the Pirates Online Launcher today:

PC version
  1. To download the Toontown launcher for PC, click here.
  2. If you’re in Internet Explorer, click "Run" when prompted, to start installation on your computer.
  3. If you’re in Firefox, click “Save File” when prompted, to download to your computer.
When the download is complete, double click the PotC-setup.exe in the Firefox Download Manager window to open it and begin installation.
  4. When the download is complete, double click the Pirates Online launcher icon that will automatically appear on your desktop in order to sign-in to the game.

MAC version
  1. To download the Pirates Online launcher for Mac, click here.
  2. When the download is complete, drag the installer icon onto your computer Desktop.
  3. Double click the installer icon to start the installation process.

Once the install is complete, the Pirates Online launcher automatically appears on your desktop. Just click on it to play!

This exciting change in how you play Pirates of the Caribbean Online is coming very soon!

... I guess this is what you get when you complain about the launcher malfunctioning.
But am I the only person that doesn't like this, at all? Now I cant listen to music or chat via the wiki or do anything else while playing the game (one of the things my Windows 7 is convenient for). And does it say... download the Toontown launcher for PC? I hate to say it, but this horrendously displays how undedicated D is to the fans. TAKING AWAY CONTENT? SERIOUSLY? And it gives us the wrong name for the PC lancher? Did ANYONE proofread this? Who thought this was a good idea?

Cool.... I guess.

:/ I'm half and half on this......
I'm glad that they are going all launcher, because nowall my friends that play through browser wont have as much lag, but I'm sad, because now When they update, I cant get on 2 pirates at once... :(

LOL! The funny thing is they were going to Browser only because it was easier to maintain. But then they realized how many different types of browser that their community used. This huge variety meant a lot more work to keep the game compatible with each browser. Let’s see… 2 Common operating systems with moderate updates, or about 4 internet browsers that are updated more often. I’m just glad they realized in time that the Launcher, although requires a little more maintenance, is easier and more efficient to use. I hope we can expect updates that will improve the launcher; i.e. Runtime Error, and connection issues.

Disney listened to pirate feedback on this in making their decision.

Hallelujah! I hate the browser version. Glad they've decided to keep the launcher.

You can do that without the browser.

WeirdBeard 07-22-2011 10:04 PM

My brother uses Browser. you can have 2 pirates without browser, aye. Ik how.

akamystic 07-22-2011 10:45 PM

I think this was a good decision for various reasons. I know they probably got tired of dealing with the browser support issues.

Toontown went to Launcher only too :D

I'm glad that they decided to put back the Launcher, but I don't see why they'll take away the browser version. Never hurts to have both, after all. And now you need two computers to play with two pirates. I personally don't mind this change, as I rarely double pirate, but I simply don't see the point in going all Launcher. Doesn't hurt to have both.

richfireskull 07-22-2011 11:31 PM

I am glad they are going to the launcher.

I was too.

However, it was on 2 different, linked accounts.

Nice! :p

Ever since i had to give up the game and the launcher three and a half years ago (because of crazy lag. o.O), i've been waiting to use the launcher... well at least since i started back up in September 2010. ;) Thanks, POTCO Team!!!
