Playing with friends?

Well I just started on this game today, and I got to say, better than I expected. I got my brother playing it as well, but our issue is this. We were both in the same starting area (docks at Port Royale) and didn't see each other :/. Is there something I'm missing, such as multiple servers? Is there a way to play together with friends and family, or is this the hands were dealt? It would be nice to play along with someone, makes the experience a lot better in my opinion.

Yes, sir (ma'am?). You can change the server you're on after you earn and launch your light sloop on a Welcome server. To find out which server you're on, open your map (by pressing 'M'). Your current server is shown at the top, right under "World Map". If you want to change servers, open your map, click the tab under the "Current Server" box, and then click the server you'd like to go to.

Also, once you've met up with your brother, you can add him as a friend. Just click on his pirate, and click "Make Pirate/Player Friendship." Pirate friendship means that you're friends with that pirate, and that pirate only. Player friendship basically means that you're friends with any pirate on that player's account. And if you want to go directly to him, click "Go To," located at the bottom of his player card. You can also send messages, or "whispers," directly to your friends by clicking the ear icon on that person's player card.

Hope this helps! :)
