Lag while searching forums and posting
 

Ever since last night I've been having some trouble on POF. When I click on links from the home page (New Posts, recent posts in the side bar, and other links) it takes a really, really long time for them to load. I usually have to click the link more than once to get it to load, and it gets a bit annoying. Also, when I try to post, it usually will give me an infinite load (the little loading circle next to the "Post Quick Reply" button) and at the top of my screen. I end up needing to close the tab and reopen POForums to see that my post was actually posted, and it won't just post it and I can go back.

The browser I'm using is Google Chrome, and this only started happening last night. Normally I can click a link and go right to it without any lag, and posts are usually instantaneous. Is this something wrong with the site or something on my end?

I just tried using Chrome, and it works fine for me, and the site Isn't lagging for me... probably something to do with your internet connection.

Well, chrome isn't a native browser for the version of vB (the forum software) that we are currently running. Though it should run fine with just some minor bugs. I'm not sure when Nick plans to update the site. Since this next update means a lot of changes including disabiling our present skins, I'm sure he's trying to plan ahead before doing this.

We haven't made any changes to the site or server this week, so I'm afraid that any sudden new problems may be on your end. I would check your internet connections first then check for any malware that may have gotten on your computer. You could even try different browsers and see if you are experiencing the same problems with them.

I am having the same issue using the new version of Firefox. I did try Internet Explorer and had no difference - even now I am having the same lag issue that the others above have described

Okay, thats strange. Its not my internet, because I was able to go to another computer and navigate around the site from there. I tried using Internet Explorer and I was having even worse lag, so it may be my computer... I'm not sure. Maybe it'll just fix itself in time. I'll do a scan on my computer to see if its just a bug or something, but it may be on my end.

The site's software isn't natively setup to run with FF 4, Chrome, or IE 8,9, or 10. So this could possibily cause some problems as it's trying to interpret the coding for the older browsers such as FF 2&3 and IE 5,6,& 7.

Otherwise, the site seems to be running pretty smooth.

I use Safari and Firefox and I haven't had any issues. There was a brief hiccup, but I opened a new window of POF and it went smooth again.

We keep getting some reports from just a few users across our sites of lag issues. I haven't experenced any problems other than the occasional minute lag which we've had for years as the server adjusts the loads. I've asked the mods and other admins and they don't seem to be having any issues either.

So I check our server stats to make sure it was working ok. Everything seems to be fine with it. Actually, a little better than normal lately. It could be possible that a localized internet issue is causing this or some other factor but from what I can tell, it's nothing on our end.

You may be right, Batleth... my internet has been acting funny lately, and I've really noticed it since yesterday. Maybe I'll get my Internet upgraded soon and that should fix the problem.

Umm... very sorry to double post, but I do want to just bump this because I noticed another issue I am having (unrelated to the lag, but I don't want to post a new thread). I notice that the buttons that normally put the code in the text box for text things (bold/italics/underline, color, size, font, picture, URL, all of them) are not working when I click on them. As in, nothing happens. It doesn't even act like a button that gets pushed in anymore. I just click it and it doesn't move or anything. Also, when I go to profiles, the tabs that show things like Friends, Pirate Profile 1, Pirate Profile 2, etc. are not there, and I instead see them all below and I need to scroll down to see them.

This doesn't sound like lag, but problems with coding itself... anyone else having these issues?

I tried all of them and nothing. I even went to your profile and mine and tried all of those too.

Okay this is very strange. I've also found that when I click on a person's username above their post, it takes me straight to their profile instead of giving me a drop down list. The Primary Pirate Profile doesn't work... I notice that when I hit the log out button it doesn't give me confirmation pop-ups saying "Are you sure you want to log out?" either. This is really weird.

EDIT: I'm doing this edit from another computer in my house and I'm not having any problems... mods can close this thread. I think its just a problem with my computer. As you can see, the BB codes work...

EDIT TO EDIT: Mods can definitely close this thread... looks like all I needed to do was clear my cache and now its working fine. Sorry about this confusion.
